St Francis College News Friday 1st August, 2014
It has been a great beginning to Catholic Educa on Week! On Sunday staff members Les Conroy, Paul Blinkhoff, Cathy Barre , Sr Lee Veriga, Fiona Edgeworth, Megan Philpo , Rachel Whitaker and I joined our student representa ves Samantha Tafola, Georgie Metu, Sisifo Puni and Alexys Deguara who par cipated
in the combined schools’ choir and Molly Chan Tung and Dorrycie Prakash who were part of the entrance procession at the Catholic Educa on Week Launch at St Stephen’s Cathedral. In his homily Archbishop Mark Coleridge reminded us that we provide the ‘glimmer’ of the kingdom of God for each other through our ac ons and words.
On Wednesday our year 9 students represented St Francis College at the Catholic Educa on Week launch. We were so proud of the conduct of our students at this very formal occasion, where many dignitaries were present including Archbishop Mark Coleridge and Premier Campbell Newman.
Our hope for our children when we embrace a catholic educa on is that learning is more than academic results or scholas c achievement. We want our children to be the best they can be, capable of effec ve thinking, ac ng, rela ng and accomplishing in whatever field they enjoy and have a passion for; but more importantly we want our children to be people who give and receive love, who are peacemakers, who find good in others and do good for others, who contribute to the greater good as they live a good life; a life where they know they are loved by God.
In our own St Maximillan Kolbe Parish on the weekend many of our children received the sacraments of First Communion and Confirma on. We congratulate these children and their families and delight in welcoming them into sharing these sacraments with the parish.
We have commenced split assemblies for our Prep – 6 Learners while the building work is in progress. The 3 – 6 children have their assemblies on Monday at 2:15pm and the Prep – 2 children have an assembly on Tuesday at 2:15pm.
A big thank you to our P & F who have sponsored the purchase of take home readers for our li lest learners and the volunteers who so generously volunteered their me to cover these readers.
