potential clients are looking for.” Brocade’s clients certainly are varied and spans every industry vertical imaginable. A case in point, at this year’s Gitex, the communications leader has announced a partnership with the UAE Ministry of Justice. Brocade is now responsible for replacing the core and edge switches of the Ministry network in the Sharjah Court building.

“The message that we are sending is that we are a company that prides ourselves on innovation. The networking department has been stagnant for the recent history. However, everything

provided for the visitors at the Jannah Hotel will revolutionise the guest experience.

The Jannah Place Marina has already gone through a soft launch of its systems, and is scheduled to open for full operations in November. The solution included the implementation of a network infrastructure (switches, routers and WLAN), IT servers and the latest unified communications and collaboration solutions.

“This kind of connectivity on demand is the way of the future in hospitality,” says Dweik.

Jannah... Gitex witnesses increased deals“When a guest checks into a hotel, the first thing they ask for is Wi-Fi. They expect it to be fast, and that is what we can provide.” Starting from November, the hotel will offer guests 50 MB hotel internet access using their own devices across all areas of the resort including all rooms and public areas from the lobby, the pool to restaurants.

Huawei’s continued partnership and support of the Jannah Hotel and Resort group will not be limited to the 133 room Jannah Place Marina. “We plan on being a part of Jannah’s other properties around the region,” says Dweik. “We will also be there to provide support throughout the implementations and beyond. This is a true partnership.”

Leading international technology companies have leveraged the 34th edition of GITEX Technology Week - the premier Information and Communication Technology (ICT) event in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) – to secure multi-million dirham deals with a host of regional private and public sector entities.

With more than 100,000 ICT professionals from 150 countries

visiting GITEX Technology Week, global brands have used the opportunity to ink deals and strategic agreements with both regional governments and private technology leaders. International technology leaders have also taken advantage of the global gateway GITEX Technology Week offers to highlight cutting-edge products and innovations to drive regional Smart Government and Smart City initiatives. Companies

signing major deals at GITEX include Ericsson, Huawei, Cisco, Microsoft, Etisalat and du.

“As the leading ICT event in one of the world’s most lucrative ICT markets, GITEX Technology Week offers a unique platform for local, regional and international entities from across the public and private sector to come together under one roof and strike long-term partnerships that foster innovation, drive revenues and heighten consumer engagement,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions & Events Management, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the show organiser. “GITEX has always been synonymous with business, deals and transactions – that reputation has been further enhanced at the sold-out 2014 show and delivered strong, demonstrable ROI for exhibitors.’’

is changing,” says Jewell. Indeed, the company has built a name for itself in terms of innovation. This year, Brocade will take Gitex as an opportunity to showcase MLX series routers to businesses of all sizes in the region.

Brocade has been steadily expanding in the region, and for good reason. “The Middle East is unique in a few ways,” says Jewell. “There is a rapidly expanding middle class here, as well as incredibly support from local governments. At Gitex, there is simply no pessimism to this show. You can genuinely come here and do business.”

Next year, says the Brocade top-brass, we can hope to see a significant individual presence from Brocade at Gitex, with some very exciting news to announce.

VMware intros virtual desktop and application portfolioVMware has announced new products, program and service that add to the growing list of innovative solutions for end-user computing. Among them is VMware Horizon FLEX that will enable enterprises to centrally provision, manage and secure virtual desktops and applications running locally on Macs and PCs, using policy-based controls to more securely embrace bring your own (BYO) policies.

In addition, a new cloud service for desktop disaster recovery will allow organizations to protect their business and enhance workforce continuity, expansion of cloud hosted services in Europe will open opportunities for customers, and a new storage program will help customers quickly predict and control virtual desktop deployment costs at scale.

“We continue to dramatically accelerate the pace of innovation with new end-user computing and mobility solutions that will help VMware customers address the needs of their workforce,” said Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager, End-User Computing, VMware. “Building on the strong launch momentum for VMware Workspace Suite and new innovations in the AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management platform, VMware Horizon FLEX joins a growing line-up of VMware End-User Computing products that transform legacy systems into a modern workspace that solves modern day challenges.”

Sophos has come to GITEX this year with a range of cloud solutions that make security simple by eliminating the complexities within network layers. This marks the company’s seventh year of presence at the show in a row.

Few months down the line Sophos will be introducing similar solutions for the private space that will counter security threats consumers experience in the Internet of Things (IoT) space, Thomas Thoelke, Territory Manager, Sophos NEEMA, said.

Sophos’ approach to cloud is different from other cloud vendors in the market as its solutions offer endpoint to endpoint management, Thoelke added. Soon it will upgrade its range of

cloud management solutions for encryption of the data layer.

“This is where Project Galileo comes into play – it is a convergence of various solutions that together allow network components to communicate with endpoint components. It intends to provide integrated security without adding any further complexities to the existing infrastructure which will not

be limited to the enterprise space only,” said Thoelke.

Compared to similar solutions existing in the market, the project intends to roll out solutions that would scan all systems connected to the network for traces for malicious intrusions – it gives each component of the system complete visibility into all other components and lets them all make collective decisions on where there is a loophole that can be targeted by malware,” Chester Wisniewski, Senior Security Advisor, Sophos, said.

Sophos has acquired many companies in the last couple of years, the most recent one being Cyberoam, whose iView solution is the highlighted product this year.

NEC showcases latest portfolioNEC Display Solutions, a participant at GITEX for the last eight years, is showcasing its portfolio of products at this year’s ICT event.

Ian Gobey, General Manager Middle East and Africa, NEC Display Solutions says, “GITEX draws people from all around the region and is a good opportunity to meet up with our customers and partners. However, as our business is quite diversified and there is only a limited amount of space, it is becoming difficult to represent ourselves in the way we want.”

According to Gobey, the company is not making any big announcements at the event as today we are in an era where people expect the latest from the technology space at almost an immediate pace.

The company’s main distributor for the region is Westcon. “Our

channel strategy has always been to work very closely with our partners, which includes resellers and systems integrators, who have a leverage in the market verticals, which we are catering to,” he says. “Part of the partnership we offer is not only commercial reliability but it is also about the knowledge transfer. Our products are not just about projectors and displays, it is more about solutions and applications. We have to make sure that our partners are aware about the key features and benefits of our products but also help them to sell these solutions to their customers.”

A range of experts and spokespeople at NEC Display Solutions will be available on the stand or for post GITEX briefings to discuss what is new for NEC as well as what the future holds for the AV industry.
