Gartner...says Burt.

However, though consumers may not have the ability to buy online, we are not looking at a store-less future. “We said, and still maintain, that retailers need to invest in the store. The store is not going anywhere, but the layout and function may be changing and the store will be extremely important as far as execution,” she says. For example, consumers may purchase their products online, but pick them up in the store. This is particularly convenient in the Middle East where delivery infrastructure such as postal codes may be lacking. In that way, the store must remain, but perhaps there will be an area dedicated to product pick-up.

Mobile retail surrounds the Gartner booth in Sheik Saeed Hall, though not in the form we are

used to seeing. The stall is flanked by governments demonstrating e-government and m-government solutions. “We are seeing trends that were traditionally limited to retailers moving into education and government,” explains Burt.

It is clear that the Middle East is technically ready for technology

driven consumerism, however, consumers and end-users still need to be trained. “We may have the technology,” says Burt “but it will only grow as fast as it is adopted by consumers, and for that to happen, consumers need to be comfortable and confident in their purchases.”

and uses these to find correlation of suspicious activities. A drawback of the technology is that it gives half the story where one needs full visibility. That is what led RSA to introduce Security Analytics that gives the end-user ‘eyes’ within the network – it is the equivalent of placing video cameras within your infrastructure.”

The ASOC combines the power of logs with full visibility by bringing both technology to a single platform.

Government, financial and telecommunication sectors will remain the key verticals for RSA in the Gulf region, Abdella says. “It is certain that we will continue to invest in the region with the growth rates we have realized. At Gitex, we look forward to signing partners with strong services and consultancy background.”

MTN Nigeria in deal with Alcatel-Lucent to boost connectivity

Alcatel-Lucent is opening up Africa’s most populous nation to the benefits of ultra-broadband

video plus the ever-increasing need from enterprises for storage and data center connections. The new network also gives MTN the capacity and flexibility to offer wholesale services to other service providers in the region.

Lynda Saint-Nwafor, CTO of MTN Nigeria said:  “MTN realised we needed to upgrade our network to meet customer expectations for ultra-broadband connectivity and high reliability within Nigeria’s very competitive marketplace.  We wanted a state of the art solution that met three main criteria: increased network reliability, a high degree of scalability to prepare the network for 400G and beyond, and preservation of our existing 10G investment.  Alcatel-Lucent’s demonstrations showed that they could meet all of our criteria and we look forward to deploying the network overlay in 2014.”

connectivity by launching a superfast, 100 gigabit-per-second fiber-optic network with MTN

Nigeria, a subsidiary of Dubai-based MTN Group and the leading service provider in Africa.

MTN Nigeria, which covers more than almost 90 percent of Nigeria’s land mass, will deploy a 100G network that re-uses existing 10G optical assets thereby preserving MTN past investments while ensuring future proof and state of art solution.

Nigeria’s growing economy is fueling a proliferation of mobile subscribers, which number about 275 to every one landline in the country.  As a result, Nigeria has a significant need for reliable, mobile broadband access to support growing demand for bandwidth hungry services such as streaming

Infoblox’s focus at GITEX 2014 is two-fold, first is security, particularly DNS and content security and the second is around helping to deliver on the promise of cloud computing by speeding up the cloud components.

Cherif Sleiman, Regional Director, Middle East, Infoblox, says, “We use GITEX as a platform to fundamentally focus on

educating delegates around the latest and greatest innovations. If you look at Middle East specifically, there are areas where Infoblox can help with the local market such as security and cloud computing.”

The company is launching new solutions around network control portfolio and network virtualisation and will showcase solutions

which help to respond to security breaches in a faster manner. “We are also looking at further integration with VMware and cloud,” adds Sleiman

Zebra Technologies is presenting innovations designed to help accelerate the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in the Middle East at Gitex. These include Zebra Link-OS, an operating system that pairs a powerful software development kit and software apps with smart Zebra devices. The operating system allows users to easily integrate, manage and maintain

Zebra’s suite of printers from multiple locations.

“Zebra is committed to providing innovative technologies from smart printers to real-time tracking technologies to help organizations gain better visibility into their operations, in the Middle East,” says Pratik Kajaria, Territory Manager, Middle East, Zebra Technologies Europe Limited. “Through Link-OS, we are providing

to the region the means to integrate our printers into a rapidly evolving cloud-based wireless world with an ever increasing number of smart devices.”

Link-OS is an operating system designed to easily facilitate cloud-based applications and supports the four essential components that Zebra recommends for a successful implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

Infoblox underlines security and cloud solutions

finds it as an useful platform to reach out to their customer base. “GITEX is an incredible exhibition, it caters to so many industries and so many technologies. Our objective is to create awareness around the latest trends, innovations and best practices in our industry and to meet potential customers.”

Sleiman is clear on the fact that along with the company’s growth, it is equally important to grow its channel network. Presently, the company has identified win-win partnerships in the market. “It’s not about the number of partners but more on the quality of the partners that we have in our ecosystem,” he explains. The next step is about channel enablement. The company aims to create centres of excellence, increase the level of competencies and provide local support in order to help channel partners to respond to challenges faced by customers.

Currently, it works with distribution partners such as Arrow, Starlink and Exclusive Networks for the Middle East region.
