The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating in Gitex and is supporting the Smart Government initiative and the Dewa’s efforts to promote its smart services.

DEWA was one of the first governmental organisations to announce the complete transformation of its services into Smart services in less than a year after the launch of the Smart Dubai initiative, which aims to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world. Ruckus... “The immediate concern is how

one should provision for such large amount of data download since a typical user from the region is quite sophisticated,”Hockaday said. “Should it be the responsibility of a telecom service provider to enable a wireless connectivity of such magnitude? The only drawback would be escalated service charges the end-user would have to bear. Although their networks support 4G, they are still strained.”

Ruckus bridges the gap by providing 10 times the speed in both closed and open places, Hockaday added.

“Deloitte has rated Ruckus the largest provider of wireless solutions to the service carrier worldwide and the second largest provider to the enterprise sector

across the EMEA region. How we sell to markets and align with our channel partners enables us to maintain the dominance,” Hockaday said.

Part of our growth strategy for the region is to grow our presence in Saudi Arabia, said Wassim Al Ghalayini, Regional Sales Manager, KSA, Ruckus Wireless. “We are proud to announce we have appointed Al Jammaz as a Value Added Distributor (VAD) for Saudi Arabia.”

Through the partnership, Al Jammaz will work with their team of resellers to create awareness for Ruckus in the region, fulfill orders through stock availability, manage events use their sales and technical capabilities to meet customer needs in the region.

“GITEX is a good platform to meet up with our entire ecosystem of partners, customers, distributors from across the region,” says Nasser El Abdouli, Middle East Channel Manager, F5 Networks. “It is the only time of the year where we get all the vendors and customers on the same platform.”

The security vendor has been participating at the ICT event for the last five years. “We can see the change in the messaging from the exhibitors as today we see more and more companies focusing on cloud, virtualisation and security. Also the space that companies take up every year is a good indicator of how well the industry is doing. We have been doubling the size of our stands,” he adds. “Our expectation like every year is to meet everyone and spread our

message.”According to Abdouli, the company

has been showcasing its latest solutions at the event. The vendor has been bundling its technologies in good, better and best packages to make the messaging and the selling process much simpler. “Any customer who wants to take the full benefit of our entire security suite of technology can go for the best bundle and they will get more benefits for less. Our partners continue to play an important role for us.”

The vendor has distribution partnerships with Arrow, Exclusive Networks and most recently Westcon for the Middle East region. “Our partners work in a healthy way and is making a lot of investments around F5, which are enabling the business.”

services that enable customers to complete their transactions easily and conveniently. Through the smart services, the Dewa can meet a large number of requests and transactions simultaneously without any delay.

“Our participation in Gitex aims to demonstrate the Dewa’s latest smart services and initiatives to visitors and customers, and encourage them to adopt a smarter and easier way of living,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer, Dewa smart transformation. “We hope Smart services will help build a better future for everyone by effective participating in achieving the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve the satisfaction and happiness of the customers by making government services available to them round the clock in support of

the strategy of the government,”.Among the initiatives it will

showcase at Gitex, DEWA will highlight its three initiatives that support the Smart Dubai initiative to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world. The first initiative is to encourage households and building owners to install photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity, which can be consumed within the premises with the surplus to be exported to the Dewa’s grid.

The second initiative is deploying smart metres and applications that enable customers to directly monitor their actual electricity and water consumption through their smart device or PC. The third initiative includes establishing the infrastructure for electric-vehicle charging stations.

DEWA is at the Dubai Smart Government’s stand at Gitex, which will be held from October 12 to 16 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

AOC & Phillips on right MEA track

TPV Technology, a display solutions provider, introduced AOC & Phillips monitors and display solutions to the Middle East last year.

MMD is the licensed distributor of Phillips display technology incorporated under TPV Tech and it is showcasing a range of Phillips

and AOC softblue display solutions, smartphones and tablets under the company banner for the first time at GITEX this year. Last year, the company had exhibited its solutions through Infoblox.

The company inaugurated its Dubai office last June, and is headed by

Vineeth Sebastian, Regional Sales Director, AOC & MMD MEA.

In addition to Philips and AOC, TPV is also an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for many other technology brands but the two continue to hold supremacy in the Middle East region registering a growth of 20% in sales volume year-on-year, Thomas Schade, Vice President, MMD EMEA says. The industry average is 3-4%.

“One of every three monitors manufactured worldwide comes out of our factories,” Schade says. “In Europe, we have managed to triple our market share by three-fold within the last five years. We intend to bring the MEA region on the same trajectory and the sales volume we have pulled for last few year is quite promising. We are

not interested in short-term success. We are only interested in sustainable growth. Due to this, we have been able to surpass other players in the monitor market within the region by selling three-times more than each an average distributor within one year only.”

The key to the company’s success in the region is the distribution strategy.

MMD has divided the MEA region in five blocks – U.A.E, Gulf, North Africa, South Africa and East & West Africa. Within the U.A.E, MMD has partnered with two resellers, one for AOC and one for Phillips.

Vineeth intends to use the company’s independent presence at GITEX this year to gain reseller partners from the MEA region for AOC smartphones and tablets.

Cisco and GBM Unveil Latest UAE Security Research

The latest UAE workplace Security research findings were unveiled at Gitex today at a press conference hosted by Cisco and Gulf Business Machines (GBM). The results, which draw on responses from over 500 employees in the UAE, uncover two significant issues.

The first shows that employee behaviour is a genuine weak link in cyber security and becoming an increasing source of risk – more through complacency and ignorance than malice - because companies have so insulated employees from the scale of daily threats that people

expect the company’s security settings to take care of everything for them.

The second shows that an increasing number of employees feel that security policies are inhibiting innovation and collaboration, and are making it harder for them to do their job effectively – to the point

where some employees take steps to circumvent the policy.

The research shows that there is a need to evolve security policies so that they continue to provide the best possible defence to attack from outside the organisation while simultaneously adapting to different types of employee behaviour.

Employee behaviour (57%) was second only to organised cybercrime (61%) when employees were asked to identify the top two greatest sources of risk to data security. All of those surveyed use their company’s network for personal transactions – the most popular was personal banking (74%) closely followed by travel bookings and online shopping (63%).

“This study confirms the complex challenges facing businesses when it comes to IT security,” said Rabih Dabboussi, Managing Director, Cisco, UAE. “The results show most employees recognise that the threat from cybercriminals is real and worthy of continuous defence but it also reveals that employee complacency about IT security is increasing the risks for businesses in the UAE. An employee who blindly trusts is one amongst several “weak links” in the security chain. These expose an organisation to greater risks by providing enterprising hackers with multiple doorways that can be unlocked and potentially lead to sensitive data.”

Learnabout

Hall1, Stand B1-10

How do you believe GITEX is an indication of the health of the ICT business in the Middle East? With the number of attendees at GITEX growing each year, it is proof that the ICT business in the Middle East is strong and will continue to thrive. Customers in the region attend each year to learn about the newest and most innovative products from the increasing number of exhibitors that attend. There continues to be an interest in the latest technologies that will help organisations run more efficiently and more effectively.

What do you believe will be special about GITEX this year? This year’s GITEX themes – cloud technology, big data, mobile opportunities and Smart Destinations – are extremely relevant and should provide a good base for discussion amongst exhibitors and attendees. In addition, there should be a variety of new products that address these themes and it will be exciting to see what’s in store for the future.

Are you planning on being back next year?Yes, GITEX is always a great experience for Laserfiche and we look forward to continuing our participation.

What are the key trends we can expect in the next two years? One trend that is impacting the technology landscape is the desire to capture the institutional knowledge of an organisation, especially in the high-tech world where things change so rapidly. The more widely this knowledge can be disseminated among employees, partners and customers, the greater the return. Providing a place for people to collaborate around document-

driven business processes, answering questions, sharing ideas and capturing tacit knowledge that is often lost when projects end or employees leave an organisation will add convenience and enable higher levels of interaction. In addition, cloud offerings will be in higher demand in the coming years. The ability to share data on a central network will provide organisations with additional efficiency and mobility.
