Following its achievement of providing 99.8% of the urban population in the UAE with fast nationwide 4G mobile data network, du is celebrating its expanding mobile customer base – which is closing in on the five million mark.

It is demoing mobile broadband speeds up to 150Mbps, through Internet keys being showcased during the event.

“It is thanks to our ever-expanding du family of close to five million customers that we are who we are today,” commented Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, du. Our customers are already enjoying

the fastest nationwide 4G network and we have taken the strategic decision to make LTE commercially available only when devices such as LTE smartphones become available in the market.”

Previous major milestones achieved by du’s network include the infrastructure installation of Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON)-capability to ensure more efficient spectrum for broadband users, as well as an increase in capacity with the introduction of High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) and dual carrier HSPA+, placing du within the top five telecom operators globally. du’s GPON complements its

state-of-the-art, UAE-wide Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network, the first to be deployed in the UAE, into which the company has invested over AED 300 million; FTTH will support the enhanced LTE experience.

Since its inception, du has invested heavily in its network infrastructure, with a capital expenditure programme that has exceeded AED 7 billion in less than five years; focused efforts to continuously improve the system will lead to an expected AED 1.6 billion being spent in 2011 alone, as investment continues to be the primary focus in building the company’s mobile network.

In the presence of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, du has launched Emirati Plan – a new mobile offering from du designed exclusively for UAE nationals. His Highness was received at the stand by Osman Sultan, CEO, du, accompanied by Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, du, who explained the details of the Emirati Plan and the ways in which it would benefit UAE nationals in ways beyond fulfilling their communication needs.

The Emirati Plan is the result of extensive research into the mobile communications needs of UAE nationals and has been designed specifically to meet their requirements. It is exclusively available to those holding a UAE passport or National ID and comes with a bouquet of benefits, including an exclusive range of

mobile numbers available only to Emirati Plan customers; national rewards, such as up to 2000 national minutes, 1000 SMS and 2GB of data per month; international rewards to connect to the world at a single special rate of 2.42 fils/second (AED 1.45/minute) for international calls to over 190

destinations; lifestyle rewards, with personal invitations to major events, special content and more.

Key to the Emirati Plan is that it not only gives to the customer, but allows the customer to give back to their community, through a CSR initiative created by du, details of which will be announced shortly.

“Every customer is unique in his or her communication requirements, which is something that we’re renowned for recognising and catering to through our many distinct packages,” said Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, du. “Our new Emirati Plan is special and only Emiratis are eligible for this exclusive plan, which comes with a variety of value-added extras that will complement our customers’ lifestyles. We believe that the dedicated numbers which will be used only for Emirati Plan subscriptions will encourage a new national unity – if you have an Emirati Plan number, you are broadcasting your pride on being an Emirati citizen.”

The Emirati Plan is available in three different tiers that suit the Emirati lifestyle -Emirati 100 Plan, Emirati 250 Plan and Emirati 500 Plan, which will be available at all du Shops and authorised dealers.
