6 Tips to Maintaining Your Dishwasher
When it comes to your dishwasher, you probably just
think about somewhere you can throw all of your dirty
dishes to get them clean. How often do you think
about actually cleaning your dishwasher though? For
most of us, that is the last thing on our minds. We
assume that the dishwasher is clean enough because
it is cleaning our dishes for us. However, that isn’t the
case. You have to do your part too.
Cleaning and Deodorizing the Inside of the Machine
If you use your dishwasher on a regular basis, you
normally don’t have to worry about this step.
However, when your dishwasher isn’t used for a week or longer, it can begin
to smell bad. In this case, you need to step up and use a cleaning agent to
help get rid of the smell quickly and efficiently.
Don’t Forget about the Outside
Sure, you assume the inside of the dishwasher needs to be clean, but how
often do you think about the outside? All you need is some dish detergent
and a damp sponge to clean it up nicely. In a few minutes, your dishwasher
will be sparkling clean.
Removing the Rust
When you have hard water, the inside of your dishwasher can end up
looking like a war zone. Instead of being nice and white inside it is covered
in this horrible rust color that makes you want to wash your dishes by hand.
Take the time to use a rust remover inside of the dishwasher and eliminate
all of the stains left behind by hard water.
Repairing the Dish Rack

If you start noticing the plastic coating wearing on your dish racks, they
might end up corroding and rusting. The last thing you want is all of that
corrosion inside of the dishwasher and all over your dishes. When you start
noticing the signs of wear and tear, you might need to look into a new rack.
You might be able to repair the tines as well. Check out some of the different
repair kits to see what options you have available.
Cleaning the Filter
On a number of the dishwashers, there is a filter that sits at the bottom. You
need to make sure and clean this filter on a regular basis. If you have this
type of filter, you want to look in the owner’s manual to find out about
cleaning and removing them. If there are holes in it, you need to replace it
to keep your pump and the motor seals from any excess particles that might
be loose in the dishwasher.
Cleaning the Spray Arm
Over the course of time, the holes in your spray arm can become clogged
with toothpicks, paper and other elements. Your dishwasher will be able to
clean your dishes better when these holes are clean on occasion.
