6th July 2018 Newsletter No. 089
Welcome to our Newsletter!
There has been a fabulous, excited buzz around school this week as the initial work
has begun on our playground developments. I am sure you will have all noticed the new
gym equipment and 2 table tennis tables which have been installed on the edge of the
field.
The children have behaved impeccably this week, watching the installation and are
excited about having a go on the new equipment.
We specifically chose
this to be the first
phase of our
improvements in order
that Year 6 children can
enjoy the equipment
before they leave St
Dunstan’s.
I am delighted to announce that Year 6 will be able to have the first turn on Monday
and then it will be opened to the rest of the school!
Phase 2 of the improvements will take place during the summer holidays and I would
like to thank you all again for all of the contributions you have made to the
fundraising which is enabling the project to come to fruition.
Please note that for health and safety reasons no-one is allowed on the equipment
after school and we ask parents to please reinforce this rule with all of the children
as they go home each day. Thank you.
The District Sports team did brilliantly at the 89th
Annual Borough Athletics at the David Weir Leisure Centre on Thursday 26th June.
The children were supportive of each other and enthusiastic throughout the afternoon. Everyone did an excellent job in the heats, which resulted in many of our relay teams and sprinters making it
through to the final. All of the team must be complemented on their impeccable behaviour and sportsmanship.
The year 6 girls relay teams won in their category, leading to us winning the 'Girls Relay' trophy. Year 5 girls came 2nd and Year 4 came in 3rd. Well done to our sprinters: Lexi who came 1st in her age group. Jasmine who came 2nd in her age group and Peter who secured 1st in his heat. We took part in 6 out of a possible 8 finals. Overall, we won the girls combined trophy and came 1st in the medium schools category. Congratulations to the winners and everyone who took part in the afternoon! A huge success!

Message from the Headteacher
Year 6 Leavers’ Service
On Thursday
28th June, Year
6 visited
Southwark
Cathedral for
their Leavers’
Service.
‘There were lots of schools who came together
for songs and dance. Before the service, we
went to the wibbly wobbly bridge and walked past
the Globe Theatre. When it was time for the
service to start, we took our seats. The service
was lovely, although our view was limited by a
pillar. After the service, we had lunch in the
garden at
Southwark
Cathedral. It
was nice to
finally rest our
feet!!
When we
returned to
school, we all felt extremely proud but tired.
Thank you to the staff and Governors for
escorting us.’ by Poppy, Aquila
We are gauging interest for the Wimbledon Pantomime on New
Year’s Eve. The pantomime this year is Aladdin! The exact cost will depend on numbers but we are looking to purchase tickets for the New Year’s Eve 1:00pm performance.
If we are able to sell 40 tickets, the cost will be approximately £27.00 per ticket (which includes the £5.00 donation to the PTFA). The final price will be confirmed once the final numbers are confirmed. The seats that we are able to reserve are in the stalls and start at row L .
Please can you let us know if you are interested in purchasing any tickets and if so how many you
would like. Please e-mail your request to [email protected] by 13th July.
No money will be payable until September. Many thanks!
The Summer Term ends on
Friday 20th July at 1.30pm.
Children return to school
on Tuesday 4th September.
In the extreme hot weather that we are currently experiencing, please can you ensure that your child brings a school hat / sun hat to school and sun cream has been applied before arriving at school.

As part of their learning, for the past few weeks the children
in Nursery have been watching their caterpillars develop into butterflies.
The children enjoyed every minute of watching the caterpillars change.
It was a very magical moment when the first butterfly emerged!
The children said good-bye and the butterflies were released this week.
On Saturday 14th July it is the Cheam and Cuddington
Horticultural Society’s 125th anniversary Summer Show.
