It’s not uncommon for our guests to look to us when itcomes to getting advice on the best places to visit whilestaying here at DDG Retreat in Casares.
Many of our guests choose our Retreat for theirhoneymoon or for a romantic getaway here in southernSpain and are looking for that special excursion that willcomplement their time with us.
There’s actually a multitude of places to visit andactivities to enjoy during your stay with us. In ourprevious post, we wrote about “10 AstonishinglyRomantic Things To Do In Spain” – a collection of wowfactor experiences for those wanting to push the boatout and perhaps mark a special occasion with an unforgettable day out.
But we know from feedback we receive that some of our guests prefer to enjoy each other’s company andtheir stay here at a more relaxed pace. Below we offer you six seriously romantic things to do together thatwill make your days and nights even more special.
Moonlight Walk Along the Beach
This has to be one of the most romantic things to do anywhere on the planet.
Enjoy the simple pleasures and simply take an evening stroll on one of the many great beaches we havein this area. There can’t be anything more romantic than walking barefoot through the soft golden sandtogether, listening to the ocean waves lapping the shoreline while watching the moon’s reflection in thesea.
And if you prefer to escape the crowds, we know just the places for you to explore together – so much sothat The Times newspaper recently asked us for our recommendation on secret beaches in Spain.
Tip: Try some of the best beaches which are only a few minutes drive from the DDG Retreat includingBahia de Casares, Sabinillas, Playa Fontanilla (centre of Marbella), Playa Nagüeles (New Golden Mile) orPlaya de Nueva Andalucia. As an added bonus, stop off in one of the many beach restaurants(Chiringuitos) for an evening drink!
Romantic Picnic in the Park
With around 300 days of sunshine each year, the region around the Retreat offers a wealth of perfectlocations for those looking for alfresco dining. Take the opportunity during your stay here to spend theafternoon having a lovely romantic picnic in one of the many great parks the area has to offer.
So pack up that picnic hamper with chilled Cava and fresh strawberries and head for the beautiful Parquede La Paloma in Benalmadena.
The Paloma Park is considered by many to be one of the best parks on the Costa del Sol. Its large200,000 sq m expanses of grass and secluded picnic areas nestling among cypress, eucalyptus and palmtrees, make it the ideal location for a romantic rendezvous!
Paloma park is brimming with wildlife such as turtles, rabbits, doves and peacocks who wandernonchalantly among the visitors to the park. There is also a cactus garden with around 500 species ofcacti, a café for welcome refreshments and a manmade lake, home to a large variety of fish and turtles.
Tip: When you have finished your picnic, take a slow walk along the tranquil tree lined walkways anddiscover everything else the park has to offer.

Jacuzzi Under The Stars At The DDG Retreat
If it’s romance you are after then look no further than the DDG Retreat!
What better way to enjoy an intimate evening together than to share a hot tub under the stars whilesipping cocktails, icecold champagne or a drop or two of local Spanish Cava.
Our newly built Casa Bambu has its very own private jacuzzi, which is situated among lush tropicalgardens and pine forests. Here you can experience stunning views to the Pueblo Blanco town of Casares,Gibraltar and even the Atlas mountains of Africa.
Although the Retreat enjoys splendid weather virtually all year round, if there is a chill in the air, you will bepleased to know that the hot tub is also heated, allowing you to enjoy those bubbles whatever the weather!
Afternoon Drink in Orange Square, Marbella
Head eastbound along the coast and you will eventually reach one of the Costa del Sol’s most vibrant andwellknown towns.
Marbella is often associated with chic shopping, great restaurants and vibrant nightlife, but upmarket townmakes it onto our list of romantic things to do for an entirely different reason.
Slapbang in the centre, you will find what the locals refer to as “Casco Antiguo” or “the old town”. Datingback to around 1485, this historic area of Marbella is packed with enchanting little boutique shops, cafés
and restaurants just waiting for you to explore via the narrow arterial walkways that connect this particulararea of the town.
Orange Square (Plaza de Los Naranjos) is at the heart of the old town and is aptly named thanks to theabundance of orange trees that line the square. Orange Square presents the perfect opportunity to sitdown together for an afternoon drink while taking in the ancient Moorish architecture and savouring thearomas of Jasmine and orange blossom.
Tip: When you leave Orange Square, head towards the beach where you will find Parque Alameda, abeautiful, peaceful park full of lush tropical trees and plants. Considering that it’s located in the centre of abustling town, this park is the perfect choice for those looking to cool off and at the same time, enjoy somepeace and tranquillity.
Afterwards, head to the beach just 100 metres away and take an afternoon stroll along the PaseoMaritimo.

Enjoy Some Authentic Spanish Tapas In Ronda
Situated around one hour’s drive from the Retreat, Ronda is a historic town famed for its majestic PuenteNuevo bridge which guards the 100 foot deep Tajo gorge. The town is also famous for its bullring, said tobe the oldest in the whole of Spain and for its connection to both Orson Welles and renowned writerErnest Hemingway, who frequented the town on many occasions and held it close to his heart.
Inhabited for over 9,000 years, Ronda has become one of the most popular tourist destinations insouthern Spain. The views to the surrounding countryside from the Puente Nuevo bridge and other areasof the town are simply breathtaking and are not to be missed.
For us, Ronda represents an excellent opportunity for an intimate meal together. So why not stop for aromantic lunch and sample some really authentic Spanish tapas in one of the many restaurants thatoverlook the Tajo Gorge?
Tip: Try the Albacara restaurant, which is located overlooking the Gorge, Puente Nuevo bridge and offersspectacular views to the surrounding countryside. The setting is incredibly romantic!

Walk Along The Ramparts Gibralfaro Castle and the Alcazaba, Malaga
Perched atop of the Gibralfaro hill within the Montes de Malaga (Malaga mountains), you will find theGibralfaro Castle, which is a splendid example of Muslim medieval architecture. Originally built in 929 ADon a Phoenician enclosure, the castle was extended further in the 14th century by King Yusuf the 1st andwas used to protect the neighbouring Alcazaba palatial fortification.
It was at this very castle that the famous siege of 1487 was fought, with the Christian forces of Ferdinandand Isabella overcoming the Moorish invaders and their eventual reconquest of Granada.
The castle is a great choice for a romantic day out as it offers spectacular views of the whole of MalagaCity, its port, La Malagueta bullring and the Mediterranean sea beyond. In early evening the sun goesdown and the lights of Malaga twinkle in the distance providing you with some of the loveliest views ofAndalucia’s capital city.
