    Granules Inspection PSSD

    The PSSD is a modular inspection system for the rapidanalysis of the size and shape of granules. The pelletswhich are to be inspected are moved by the vibratingchannel and are measured individually in the free fallbetween the camera and the light source. This universalmeasurement principle enables the system to analyseup to 50 kg granules per hour, depending on the granulesize and its bulk density.

    The use of a high resolution CCD camera with automaticcontrollable lighting offers a continuous reproducibilityof the measured results. This instrument can analyse granules and particles from 80 m upwards, inde-pendent of their colour.

    The optimal operation in a laboratory environment, aswell as in an online measurement station is a paramountfactor in the quality control. This instrument offers a hugevariety of customised configurations to fit perfectly thecustomers needs and objectives. For example, wheninstalled in a bypass of the production line, this system willallow for a fast response to production problems.

    The measured data are stored in a control protocol onthe image processing computer to enable future ana-lysis, and this data can be transferred to the controlroom. During the measurement process, the imagesand the stored data are displayed in real time on themonitor. The results can be shown in a table or in agraphic and can be printed as well.

    Not only can this instrument perform an exacting ana-lysis of the granules, it can also be used for recording,archiving and documentation purposes. Each variationof the pellet's shape, size, diameter, elongation,roundness, roughness and/or convexity will be recor-ded in the measurement protocol on a multidimensio-nal characteristics vector with an error map.
