CLASS :VI

ENGLISH

In our lives, we often face challenges, or come across people we dont easily get along with. Think of a

situation when you were angry or sad about something.

Drawing from your own experiences as mentioned above, or that of a family member, create a fable or a

story using animals and birds as your central characters. Make your own hand puppets/models/origami

to narrate your story in class. Write your story on an A4 sized paper.

SOCIAL STUDIES

During the 6th

century B.C., there were emergence of new religions like Jainism, Buddhism and

Zorastrianism.

Make a short report on any one of the above mentioned religion on the following topics.

1. When and who founded the religion?

2. What were the key events that led to the emergence of the religion?

3. Main teachings of the religion.

4. Why was it popular during that era?

5. Name the places where the religion spread.

6. Mark the important monasteries/temples on a political map of India.

Support your report with illustrations and pictures and make it visually attractive. Submit your holiday

homework by 4th

of July 2015.

SCIENCE

A-MAZE-ing Plants:

What Amount of Light Makes a Plant Grow through a Maze the Farthest?

Objectives/Goals: The goal of this project is to learn what amount of light (a little or a lot) makes a plant

grow through a maze the farthest.

Methods/Materials

Part 1: Making the Mazes

Take square boxes (approx 1 ft x 1 ft size) Make cardboard

dividers for the maze and glue them into the maze.

Part 2: Transplant some fast growing climber plant (e.g., money-plant) or

bean seeds

Part 3: Putting the Plants/germinated seeds in the Mazes

Maze A A small hole admitting light.

Maze B A medium hole admitting light.

Maze C A Big hole admitting light.

Maze D An open top admitting full light.

Part 4: Close the box (maze) from all the sides (except only the top hole

from where the light is allowed to enter). Keep a provision for opening the

box (maze) for watering purpose. After daily watering it should be

covered/ closed with black cloth.

Part 5: Give water (everyday) to the plants.

Part 6: Measuring Growth:

Measure the plants every alternate day for the next two weeks and fill the table given below.

Record any other observations such as size of the leaves, colour of the leaves, number of the leaves etc.

w.r.t. each of the maze.

Take pictures of the mazes at the beginning, middle and end of your project.

Note: For optimal performance of the experiment, the box must be intact and the lid should close perfectly

so that the light can really enter through the top hole. However, you need to keep a provision for watering

Based on your observations answer the following questions:

Q.1 Which maze plant grew fastest and tallest?

Q.2 What makes the plants grow through the maze?

Q.3 Write your observations on the size of the leaves, colour of the leaves, number of the leaves etc.

w.r.t. each of the maze.

Q.4 Write a brief report on your experiences during this project.

MATHEMATICS

A. PROJECT WORK : Make a PUZZLE BOOK or a project on VEDIC MATHS

Presentation could be in the form of a file / folder / spiral bound.

The first page should contain your Name, Class, and Section.

Evaluation will be on the basis of :

Content (5marks), Presentation (2 marks), Creativity (3 marks)

B. FOR PUZZLE BOOK:

1. It should contain at least a minimum of 5 puzzles based on the concept of Maths.

2. Number the Puzzles as Puzzle 1, Puzzle 2 and so on.

3. Each puzzle should be given on one page and its solution should be given on the next page.

4. Few suggestions: Your puzzle book could be a COMBINATION of Sudoku, Missing number,

counting the number of triangles or circles in a given figure, Crossword, Magic squares, etc.

C. FOR VEDIC MATHS: Explore the concept including the following points :

1. Origin, History, Use of Vedic Maths in everyday life.

2. Learn and include at least 5 tricks of calculations.

3. Each trick to be explained properly step- by -step.

4. Give 3 or 4 examples supporting each trick.

Revise the chapters taught in class for the upcoming cycle test on July 6, 2015.
