Speaking
Body Language is Important● What you do with your body matters!● Most people appear scared or nervous with
their body language● Here are 6 ways to control not your content but
your presentation
Talk LOUD with a Friend● Find your loud voice● Stand on one end of a large room● Put a friend on the other end● Have a conversation with each other● Don’t shout, but speak loudly
Hold Up Your Arms● Do you know what your arms are doing?● Practice speaking with your arms up● What are your arms’ kneejerk reactions?
Lean Against a Wall● Nervous pacing, leg shaking, strange foot
gestures make you seem unconfident● Practice speaking while leaning sideways
against a wall● Control what your legs and feet are doing
Count Filler Words● Filler words are annoying and NUKE people’s
perception of you● Get rid of them!● Record a small speech and count every filler
word you hear

Slow Down and Practice Intonation● Match your voice with your content in pace,
pitch and weight● Droning on and on and on…. = boring● Up and down with varying speed and weight =
engaging
Smile, then Keep Smiling● When you focus, you stop smiling● When you get nervous, you stop smiling● But not smiling = frowning!● Practice an entire presentation with a smile on
