Selecting and Constructing photography for the music magazine

Page 2: 6 a professional photography (students)

I looked at a series of websites to find appropriate professional photography that I could use in my magazine. This is because: I need to have lots of options for what to

use in the magazine. I need to have plenty of variety that helps

to represent my music scene accurately.

Page 3: 6 a professional photography (students)

I like this one because it gets across the idea of rock with the guitar and the heals and shiny leggins outs the idea the non-existent glamour of rock and roll. The steps appear to be old so it makes you think that rock has been around for generations.

It could be used for one side of a contents page because of the length of the picture. I could also use it as part of a double page spread

It would influence the design of the page by using it as an inset shot creating a story/Mystery and using it as part of a double page spread would create a mystery to the story

Page 4: 6 a professional photography (students)

I like this one because it shows the rebel side of rock ‘breaking the boundaries of society’. This is portrayed by the women having a good time but it looks like shes breaking out of the circular boundary that shes sat on.

It could be used for a double page spread.

It would influence the design of the page because of the size of the picture I would have it either as a large picture one one side of the double page spread or as a smaller picture within the text.

Page 5: 6 a professional photography (students)

I like this one because it shows the roughness of rock. It does this with the background being in an alleyway.

It could be used for part of a double page spread

It would influence the design of the page because i could use this picture on one side of a double page spread as an artist or someone that the feature/storiy is about.

Page 6: 6 a professional photography (students)

I like this one because it shows a lack of interest in music. We get this impression because the girl is looking away from the camera with mirrored aviator glasses on and has an amp lead around her neck whilst sitting on a Marshall amplifier.

It could be used for a contents page

It would influence the design of the page because of all the white dead space around the girl you could use it to an advantage and place the contents of your magazine around her

Page 7: 6 a professional photography (students)

I like this one because the picture feels very open and free due to the white dead space around the girl in the picture. She’s looking at the camera in a seductive way , her lips are parted and her head is tilted back . It also has a relaxed feel about it.

I would use this picture as a double page spread or contents page

It would influence the style of the page because if it was a contents page i would have the writing go around the picture on the right hand side in the dead space. If it was a double page spread it would also be layed out like that.

Page 8: 6 a professional photography (students)

I like this one because its quite shocking for the fact that the women in the picture appears to be taking drugs off a guitar but is looking straight at the camera. It’s like saying that the women in the picture has an addiction to rock and roll. It also portrays the ‘sex drugs and rock ’n roll’ phrase that we all know well.

I could use this photo as a small contents photo

It would influence the design of the page because of the size of the picture I would have it as a small picture on the contents page as another story to shock readers into reading the story.

Page 9: 6 a professional photography (students)

I like this photo because it shows the end of records as one is smashed on the floor, it also seems that she doesn’t care much an d the fact that we cant see her eyes makes us unsure of she is really thinking.

I would use this photo as a double-page spread

It would influence the design of the page because the main image is mainly on the right hand side . I would use the dead space on the left hand side for the feature.

Page 10: 6 a professional photography (students)

I like this one because the girl is in an unusual position and the cigarette hanging out of her mouth makes her look distracted by the camera because she’s looking straight at it. It also seems quite seductive because she’s looking at the audience with her mouth parted and hair loose.

I would use this as a smaller picture on a feature.

It would influence the design of the page because the smaller picture could be within text or somewhere else on the page

Here are some more photos and graphics that might help me to establish the overall look of my magazine…
