* CALL TO WORSHIP Sheri Price L: I was alone with the Lord, enjoying his presence and worshipping his name. P: How good it is to spend time with the Lord, for wisdom will come into your heart, and

knowledge will be pleasant to your soul! L: I was alone with the Lord, enjoying his presence and worshipping his name, then came a

disruption: a noise, a cry, and a knock at the door. P: How disheartening when that silence with God is interrupted. L: I wanted to stay in the quiet, to enjoy the Lord’s presence a bit longer. P: There never seems to be enough time for being alone with the Lord. L: I wanted to stay, but I told the Lord to wait; there was work to be done, strangers were in

want; hospitality needed to be offered. P: To love God requires loving your neighbor, even the stranger; to love your neighbor,

even the stranger, embodies your love for God. L: It was then that I recognized the Lord’s presence in those strangers! It was then that I

enjoyed and worshipped the Lord more fully still! P: How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity! L: Let us worship the Lord, now and always.

OPENING PRAYER Sheri Price Holy God, in the creation, you offered the delight of life to the cosmos. Loving God, in your calling of Abraham, you offered the promise of kinship and blessing to nations yet unborn. Yet none of this seemed enough for us. We rebelled against your love; we abused your creation; we rejected one another; and we even despised ourselves. Merciful God, in your sending of Jesus, you offered your very own self, your engaging love and amazing grace, to us all, while we were still alienated from one another and from you. Yet even as we rejected and cursed your Son, your love prevailed: redeeming the cosmos, recreating your own family, reforming us as brothers and sisters in Christ. Grant us grace sufficient for living as you call us, in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
