Brand Extension

Brand Extension- Refers to the use of a successful brand name to launch a new or modified product or service in a new market.

What we think it means- It uses another brands name to correct its product/service.

Branding extension Example

The original Snickers bar is a shelf stable candy. The brand extension is a similar product, but in a different form. Jell-O Portable Pudding and Pudding Cups is Jell-O pudding in a different form and section of the store.

Brand Extension Example

Peanut butter is a characteristic ingredient in Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups candy. Chocolate is a characteristic ingredient of Hershey. Brand Extension Research identified Reese’s Peanut Butter as a logical extension that capitalizes on this association. Research also suggested Hershey chocolate milk.

Strong Branding

Strong Branding-Has the power to create business value and impact more than just corporate revenues and profits margins.

Strong branding- also creates competitive advantages command price premiums and decrease cost of entry into new markets and/or categories

Co-branding is the practice of using multiple brand names to jointly promote or market a single product or service.

What we think it means- A combination of multiple brands working to promote one product

Reebok and marvel partnered to launch a limited edition sneaker collaboration featuring shoes inspired by some of the most popular character In the marvel universe including wolverine Spiderman and captain America among others. The co-branding kicks were available online and through footlocker retail stores.

Apple - NikeNike (NKE) and Apple (AAPL) brought music and exercise together when they developed the Sports Kit, a wireless system that allows shoes to talk to an iPod.
