Pavillion for Beam projector ArtsThis Pavillion is designed to display visual arts using beam projector. Unlike exhibiting fixed object,

beam projector is able to show various things as it is

flexible about changing or updating exhibition contents.

People who enter the pavillion might enjoy the arts

thrown on walls or ceilling. The height of ceilling varies

in part. It means that ceilling is divided into several peices.

In other words, diverse shape of screens are made.

It is true that main purpose of this pavillion is display.

However other distinguishing funtions also exist.

Ascending stairs that lead to rooftop, one may enjoy

scenery of Han-river. People can also admire view of

the river sitting on a sculpture placed outside.

Futhermore, the pavillion itself can be an artistic objet at

night. Through windows on each wall, light of projector

leak out. This structurally intended leak of light makes the

pavillon to looks like fancy objet. It can be noticed even

from the other side of the river.

To display things using light, centain amount of darkness and closure should be required. At the same time, there is need for open spaces that communicate with surrounding environment

such as exit and entrance. To meet the conflicting value, we thought deeply about the concept of

‘density’. As a resolution, we differenciated density of bottom part and upper part of the pavillion.

For bottom part where people move in and out of the pavillion, low density is appropriate. on the

other hands, upper part which is used for screen, high density without any crack is suitable. Taking

change of density in mind, we developed the design.

Using same size unit is another keypoint. Adding or subtracting units is not only good for giving the sense of unity to the shape of pavillion, but also a good way to study‘density’.

In addition, floor composed of stairs also strictly followes the dimension of the unit.Display Scenery Objet

Site Environment

The site is remote from other part of

Seoul forest by Gangbyeon Express way

Ganbyeon ExpresswatPark 5

The site is located in the park 5,

HanRiver sidewalkPark.

Access road

from Seoul forest - through overpass

The pavillion will be installed in the Seoul Forest. Seoul Forest is located in Seongdong-gu and bounded by Han River.

Seoul Forest consists of five theme parks and the site for the pavillion is

located in the Park 4, HanRiver sidewalk Park. As Park 4 is divided from other

parks because of Ganbyeon Expressway crossing Seoul Forest, the only way

to get the site from the Seoul Foorest is a overpass that connects park 2 and

park 4. This overpass is impassible during 19:00pm-7:00am. Besides the

overpass, the site is accessible all day through river sidewalk that follows entire

HanRiver. Seoul Forest users, bicycle riders and exercisers can approach the

pavillion through these access roads.
