5. Tissues, Organs and Systems
1
You know that cells are the smallest part of your body
2
And you know that different cells have different jobs
But cells do not work alone
3
Cells that look alike and that do the same job work together in a group
A group of skin cells doing the same job is called skin tissue
4
Vocabulary:
tissue
A group of cells doing the same job
One kind of skin tissue covers your body
5
Another kind of skin tissue lines your mouth, stomach, and other body parts
Your body has other kinds of tissue
6
Bundles of muscle cells form muscle tissue
You also have blood tissue, nerve tissue and bone tissue
7
What is happening while you are writing notes?
8
Your heart is pumping
9
You breathe in and out with your lungs
Your eyes see the words that you write
Your brain helps you understand the words
10
All of these body parts are examples of organs
11
Vocabulary:
organs
A group of different tissues working together to do a job
Your heart is made of blood tissue, nerve tissue, and muscle tissue
What is the job of your heart?
12
Your skin has many different layers
13
Each layer has a different job
Your skin is the largest organ of your body
14
All the parts of your skin put together form an organ
Your stomach is an organ, too
Your stomach is an organ that helps in the job of breaking down food
15
Remember that the smallest parts of your body are its cells
A group of cells doing the same job forms tissue
16
A group of tissues working together forms an organ
Organs work in groups, too
17
18
Vocabulary:
system
A group of different tissues working together to do a job
Your body is made up of many systems
Think of a factory where cars are made
One part of the factory makes the metal body
19
Another part installs the glass
Still another part of the factory puts on the tires
20
You must have all the parts to make a complete car
21
Your body systems are like the parts of a factory
Each system does a different job, but they work together to keep you healthy
