S1-Sort

In 5s sorting is one of the critical steps to follow. In these pictures there are a couple of things that is not relevant or is not being used in this work station. One of which is the green cart on the first picture that is broken which is a hindrance whenever the truck is unloading cardboards by the horizontal bailer on the left side of the first picture. The second was the broken bike rack that is also not relevant to work processes done in the station. Those two hindrances were removed and placed on a scrap area where it will not be a hindrance to the station.

S2- Set in Order

These are the pictures taken before and after everything was set in order. On the left, there was no definite location and proper segregation of tools in the work station and therefore creates more time to look for tools and bins needed for recycling. On the right picture the recycling materials were segregated properly into sections: white paper, newspaper, bins, and shredded papers. In addition, racks were placed underneath the shredded papers so as to avoid papers getting soaked in water when the water runs through the ground through heavy raining. This was the concern also for the papers. It is that it gets soaked in water whenever it rains creating delay time to dry it before it can be recycled. The racks eliminated this problem because the papers does not touch the ground.

S3- Shine

Cleaning will be easier with the new order that was placed. These are the reasons why:

1. Shredded papers- workers will have less time cleaning the underneath of the shredded papers because they won’t need to remove every single bag to clean the floor. The reason there is racks is not just because of rain but also the worker can use a forklift to just lift a whole section of shredded paper, clean the floor and then put the racks back

2. The same process can also be applied in bottles, white papers, and newspapers. Using a forklift to lift the cages and just clean the underneath.

3. In addition, a dumpster was strategically placed beside the shredded papers because the concentration of trash is near the shredded papers.

S4- Standardize

- Signs were placed above each recyclable material group so that each worker would have an easy understanding where to put the recyclable materials collected.

- Indicators for cleaning was also set so that the work area will be kept clean and organized.- The standard also is that every worker is responsible of cleaning the materials and the work

station at the very least of once a week.- Pictures of how every part of the station was also shown so that whenever there is a worker

turnover there would be no problem remembering how the station should be organized and clean

S5- Sustain

Ensuring that this project is sustainable is critical. Regular training will be crucial in making the project sustainable. Regular audit of the 5S project by Carlos Speranza which is the site supervisor will be beneficial in helping this project be continuously effective and efficient.
