5S By the Numbers!
• 3.5 days (7/8 – 7/11)• Eleven participants trained on 5S principles • Focus on four areas in Kalkaska (parts
warehouse, training area, material storage, welding shop)
• One common goal: to reduce waste and organize the Kalkaska work area thereby increasing efficiency for warehouse and field personnel

Day 1 – Sort and Shine
Move everything out, trash what is not needed

Clean top to bottom, and inspect through cleaning
Day 2 – Set in Order
Finish repairs and put items near their point of use
Day 3 – Standardize and Sustain
Footprint and label everything. If something is missing or out of place, it should be immediately obvious

What did we do?• Removed storage room , opening up the area for easy identification of missing items,
trash, clutter, etc.• Removed balcony which only served to collect junk• Added shelves and bins• Painted walls and floors• Repaired lights
