    India occupies top position among

    mango growing countries of the

    world and produces 40.1% of the

    total world mango production.

    Mango covers an area of 4,369

    thousand ha with a production of

    31.2 million tons.

    World scenario:

    Mango (Mangifera indica Linn) is the most important fruit of

    India and is known as King of fruits.

    Other major producing states are Uttar

    Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka,Bihar

    and Gujarat.

    Andhra Pradesh tops the list of

    production and processing of fruits and vegetables andto establish a sound infrastructure in the field of

    production, processing and marketing with a focus on

    post-harvest management to reduce losses

    The National Horticulture Board (NHB) was set

    up by the Government of India in 1984 as an

    autonomous society under the Societies

    Registration Act, 1860 with a mandate to promote

    integrated development of horticulture

    Marketing Federation (NAFED),New Delhi

    National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing

    Federation of India Ltd. popularly known as NAFED

    was set up on October 2, 1958.

    Under the scheme, investment subsidy is provided

    @ 25 per cent on the capital cost of the marketing

    infrastructure development project subject to a

    maximum of Rs 50 lakh for each project in all

    States and @ 33.3 per cent of capital cost subject to

    a maximum of Rs 60 lakh for each project in case of

    North Eastern States, hilly areas and to ScheduledCastes/Scheduled Tribes entrepreneurs.

    It reduces loan default risk, so better terms on interest rates can

    be offered by financial institutions.

    All growers-irrespective of Loanee or Non- loanee; Small

    /Marginal; Owners or tenants/Sharecroppers can buy MangoWeather Insurance.

    It allows for speedy settlement of indemnities, as early as afortnight after the indemnity

    period.

    Trigger events like adverse weather events can be independently

    verified and measured.

    Benefits of Weather Index Insurance:Mango Weather Insurance is a mechanism for providing

    effective risk management aid to those individuals and

    institutions likely to be impacted by adverse weather incidences.

    AIC hereby agrees to compensate the insured against the

    likelihood of diminished mango output/ yield resulting fromActual rainfall in excess of the trigger levels, absolute

    deviations in daily temperature & wind speed above the

    defined limits

    months of December to June.

    However the period is different for

    different parameters and sections.
