strength to run the livelihood to our resourceful cattle owners in this time of recession; for
which I bow to the almighty God. I heartily congratulate all honorable milk producers of the

quality if proper care is not taken during production, procurement and transit.
Milk is a raw material, and from it milk, and milk products like Ghee, Powder,
Butter, Paneer, Curd, Buttermilk, sweets etc is being
manufactured. Quality of all product depends on process
and raw material. If raw material has good quality, then
finished product will have better quality.
Criterion like cleanliness of milch animals, healthy
animal, cattle care and personal hygiene of milking person,
cleanliness of milking place and cattle-shed, cleanliness of
milking vessel and utensils of milk collection at the society,
and, responsibility lies with producers for speedy and time
bound follow-ups of all activities right from the point of milk production by milch-animals. Whereas
responsibility of cleanliness of milk collection point, cleanliness of milk utensils, cleanliness of BCU centre and
maintain timely and careful transit of milk to the Union/chilling centre lies with directors of the society. The
processing of milk at the Union becomes speedy and easy due to wholeness of quality milk, thus quality milk and
milk products can be supplied to customers.
In order to grant encouraging zeal to Clean Milk Production, based on the bacterial count of milk from Bulk Chilling
Units, Union has started paying 10 paisa per liter for milk having bacterial count less than 15 lacs and 5 paisa per
liter for milk having bacterial count 16-30 lacs from July 07.

7.7…B "NECO Animal Project"
Union has taken on hand the Elite Herd Scheme through which adult underproductive calves to be made
reproductive. To make our animal husbandry more profitable, following two matters are very important.
1. First conception at lower age.
2. Reduce the times span between two parturitions.
Animal owners having poor knowledge of Calf care and poor economic conditions are unable to give
proper animal-nutrition, due to which, such heifers develop tendency to come in first lactation at higher age, so
they have to make more expenditure after maintenance of animals during such prolonged phase; which is not
affordable economically. Keeping this matter into consideration, a novel experiment has been initiated whereby
mineral mixture powder and deworming medicines doses were given as promotion thereby making such heifers
fertile in time; through NECO ( Not Even Calved Once ) Animal Project.
Sumul Dairy has covered up 22000 mature unproductive heifers of 560 village societies through NECO
Animal Project , whereby need to look for scientific animal husbandry enlightened. Moreover, and, every such
animal was given 2 packs of De-worming Feed, 5 packs of Sumul Mineral Powder and 3 bags of Elite Feed. Later,
treatment for external parasites and Animal Infertility eradication camps were organized whereby 17842 animals
attended and 81.10% found positively conceived.
7.7…C Fertility Improvement Programme
( F I P Programme)
Similar to our NECO project, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing
Federation Ltd has decided to run FIP programme in all associate unions.
There has been inclusion of milch cattle not yielding milk along with adult
underproductive cow / buffalo heifers. Objective was to organize Infertility
Prevention Camps every 45 days interval in every villages selected
underneath this programme. 110 villages are considered for inclusion in
our district. Three camps have been accomplished and fourth camp is
under progress. All relevant information have to be furnished through
internet, and results of this scheme can be seen from any place in the
world.
FIP programme Animal Fertility Improvement programme, similar
to Sumul Dairy's NECO project has been launched by GCMMF became
operating since 2007-08. In this programme, we have put up 13099
animal from 110 milk societies, in which non pregnant non milking animals
along with infertile heifers have been accommodated, and here also 2
packs of De-worming Feed, 5kg Mineral Mixture Powder and 3 bags of
Sumul Cattle Feed was given free. Four FIP camps were arranged
through which 10767 became pregnant, thus, 82.2% results was
achieved, which is highest in the Gujarat.
ANNUALREPORT
13
After this FIP 1, FIP-2 has become operative and 150 milk societies have been covered up, through which
15000 non pregnant animal have been accommodated. In order to see that animals do not remain empty and to
reduce times span between two parturitions Productivity Enhancement Programme (PEP) programme for milk
yielding capacity enhancement of animals will be taken up. It has been decided that 50 villages covered up in FIP-
1 programme shall be included in this programme; all scientific efforts will be made in such villages, to ensure that
such under-productive animals do not get born henceforth.
7.7. D… CATTLE FEED DISTRIBUTION:
We have made efforts to make cattle feed more balanced, nutritional and therapeutic, and we have been
able to launch a "Feed Block Production Plant" a first of its kind in Gujarat and fourth in India; thereby
manufacturing "GOLD" and "POSHAK"; such two types of feed blocks - focusing the necessity of what type and
how much an animal need in a day at the crux. Feed-block is an ideal substitute of green and dry fodder; which is a
total mixed cattle feed. Moreover, we are also producing de-worming medicine blended cattle feed looking to the
seasonal need. We are also fortifying the cattle feed with Vitamin E and live yeast culture four times in a year which
develop positive influence on productivity and wellness of animals.

7.8… Fodder Seeds distribution programme:
Fodder constitute major expenditure in Milk Production, but utilizing maximum of fodder grass seeds by
adopting scientific approach, thereby arranging green grain class and leguminous class (green and dry fodder)
regularly and well proportionately, can help control the most-cost factor in animal husbandry to achieve "milk yield
increase and cost reduction". High quality fodder crops have high nutritional due to which animal health is best
maintained. Let us use hybrid seeds to maximum and cultivate money-spinning animal husbandry. We have
furnished high yielding improved grass fodder seeds with 25%
subsidy during the fiscal year.
7.9… Chelated Mineral Mixture:
Mineral Mixture is a mixture of various major mineral & trace elements viz. calcium, phosphorous, iron, zinc,
magnesium etc. Remarkable difference in mineral contents of soil in hilly terrain, tribal belt and coastal area is
noted. Mineral content in soil has its effect on fodder and lastly on health of milch animals and milk production. In
order to maintain animal in good health, we have supplemented mineral deficiencies by adding mineral mixture in
cattle feed. Keeping mineral deficiency issues in mind, mineral mixture powder plant at Chalthan have been made
operational. We have supplied 83600 Kg chelated mineral mixture to milk co-operatives. Generally, during
monsoon season, more number of milch animals gets infested with worm infestation. Keeping this issue in mind,
we have manufactured balanced cattle feed fortified with adequate dose of Anthelmetic drugs and supplied it to
DCS during August and September when worm infestation in maximum. Over and above 88170 no 500 g packets
of balanced cattle feed fortified with anthelmetic drug is also supplied. Results of worm disease control achieved is
highly encouraging. Digestibility of dry fodder like paddy straws can be enhanced by Urea Treatment.
7.10…A Animal Group Insurance Scheme:
Earning of the member gets vanished when priceless animal-herd dies either due to disease or by any
other mean. In order to see continuation of the income, Union is supporting insurance scheme of animals. Under
this scheme, 4169 animals under 800 milk societies were insured. Necessary premium was paid to Insurance firm;
and upon getting approval of 390 insurance claims, amount of Rs. 7930000.00 have been paid to members.

borders at national level, because all success is due to transparency and
commitment of the Union.
They have supported the Rotary Eye Institute for the milk producers of the border villages of Tapi and Surat districts,
thereby providing Eyes Treatments not only to the members of the milk society but general society as a whole. "SAVE OUR
SIGHT"; 2009 Project" draws our special attention. Eye camps "Netrayagya's were well organized at Bajipura Chilling Center,
Uchchhal Chilling Center, Nihali, Umarpada, Mordevi and Dholikui. The accomplishment of work is really unique in its style.
As a totality, 22965 patients' eyes were examined. 13230 patients were provided with spectacles and 1560
surgical cases were operated upon.
Sumul dairy has performed most serviceable and praiseworthy tough task by saving an expenditure of Rs.125000
which would have been incurred by milk producers towards such treatments.
7.10C Plastic Surgery Mission (" SUMUL MUSKAAN-2008") Poor and underprivileged people of the villages of Surat and Tapi district who were
born with imperfection like torn lips, without palate, without ear, without finger, tied up
hands/legs, tumors, burn organs, skin, deformed face, cut nose, such other defects, but do
not have capacity to expend money from Rs.25000 to Rs.150000, have hope to smile.
Plastic surgery is the answer. And, Jivan Akshaya Charitable Trust whose Managing Trustee
Rev. Shri Jitubhai Zaveri, a 80 years old creative personality under whose asylum,
a Plastic Surgery Mission was organised under auspices of Kakaba Hospital,
Hansot free of cost. The way Gangaji came from heaven by the efforts of King

great endeavor not only for milk producers but for any such person of Tapi and
Surat district by extending a living lifestyle wonderfully through this great
reconstructive plastic surgery.
Field supervisors found out such persons, filled up necessary forms,
move them from their homes along with one relative to Kakaba Hospital, Hansot, get operations
performed, stay and food facilitations and finally move back to their homes back. This service was started from 1.5.2008, and
information of 215 such persons was collected, out of which 215 persons were moved to Kakaba Hospital, Hansot, and, 138
patients have been operated upon as per expert advice of professionals.
any patients were operated upon stage-wise to remove more than one defects, thus noble effort has been made by
our organization, in this way extended service not only up to the milk business but a decent Social Organization performing
social responsibility.

7.11 Tree Plantation:
In the area of Tree Plantation, our Union has participated in this
noble event and transplanted almost 1666000 tress against the target of
1150000 plantations which obtains 144.85% result through its units and
rural milk societies, Thus portrayed an eco-friendly involvement. This will
strengthen the environmental prosperity, certainly. There has been great
support from co-operative friends towards our noble cause of providing
clean environment for future generation. Gujarat Co-operative Milk
Marketing Federation has given a Certificate of Appreciation and a Shield
for this praiseworthy work.
7.12…Rural Sanitation Program / Total sanitation drive:
Rural pollution can be minimized if due priority in cleanliness be
assured at every level in the village area. Planning has been made to prevent rural illness and economic loss,
thus join hands to partner in rural prosperity, by promoting clean habits in general lifestyle, so habit of cleanliness
in milk production and milk collection. Union has successfully handled the program of providing facility of
sanitation, thereby raising 35 toilets, 35 bathrooms as per demand of the society.
7.13 Sumul Vanskui Animal Breeding Center:
Population of adult animals in our district accounted through A.I. ranges 30 to 35%, and, through natural
service ranges 70-75% by cow bulls/buffalo bulls having very poor hereditary characteristics, which can possess
genetic diseases too. Progeny born though such natural services are very pathetic whose milk yielding capacity
is very low. Such animals are not affordable in the time to come.
With the objective to develop cow bulls and buffalo bulls possessing finest characteristics for such natural
service, a Breeding Center has been established at Vanskui of Mahuva tehsil.
Under DIPA (Progeny Testing) programme, cow- heifers/buffalo-heifers possessing finest hereditary
characteristics are tested for contagious diseases and genetic diseases. And those which have clean record will
be brought to the center and nurtured with scientific techniques; and then will be allotted to areas where A.I. is
least acknowledged.
In future, finest bulls will be produced through bulls provided from our Vanskui center which will have
unparalleled characteristics as that of A.I. This year, we have provided five cow bulls/buffalo bulls in different

Objective behind this worm compost activity is to educate farmer and encourage them to use bio fertilizer. This bio
fertilizer is packed under 'Sumul Worm compost' Brand. In all, we have produced 6043 bags worm compost during
the fiscal year. Over and above, 12 member producers have commissioned their own worm compost fertilizer
units. This is a matter of pride for all of us, so will become inspiration to other farmers.
7.17 'Milk House' Aid:
In our dairy business, milk production and procurement starts
from the village society, and, for which society need to have its own
Milk House which supports the facilities of members and develop a
sense of self reliance. Keeping this matter in focus, Union has made
arrangement to extend special aid to societies which are willing to raise
Milk House with their own funds; thus 62 societies of the district have
made their own Milk House which is highly praiseworthy.
Milk house is a measure of wealth and strength of the milk society which is like a temple. Union has
assisted 49 societies to build "Dudh Ghar" and make the dream come true. Societies having their own "Dudh
Ghar" focus together administrative transparency of the Union and its technical services being rendered more
perceptible. This is a really a most praiseworthy happening.

8 A TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT:
Union has been exercising ISO 9000:2000 Quality Management System, HACCP Food Safety and GMP
since 2000; and, now has secured ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System certification in November
2008. A step ahead towards adopting Quality Management System, Bajipura Chilling Center has been adjudged
by SAI Global, Australia for ISO 9001:2000 certification after appropriate assessment.
To add further, Government of India has released the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, in addition to
the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954. This way our responsibility starts right from animal care, milk
society, bulk chilling unit, chilling centre, transportation, care and caution during processes at central dairy plant,
and suggests us to ensure supply of clean and quality milk to consumers in view of slogan 'Grass to Glass'. We
are able to achieve persistent improvement in quality matter. At present 6 milk societies have ISO 9001:2000
certificates which have been reevaluated in April 2008, and re-established up to 2011. Sumul Cattle Feed Plant,
Chalthan has been exercising ISO 9001:2001 Quality Management System which has been reevaluated and
upgraded as per ISO 9001:2008.
Our Union which is certified for ISO 14001:1996 in the year 2002 has modified the system according to ISO
14001:2004 Environment Management System; which has also been reevaluated in September 2008, so the
Certificate revised up to 2011. In this connection, we have achieved noteworthy targets in every field. Natural
resources like Electricity, Energy and Water have been utilized most economically. As a result, there has been
remarkable reduction in production cost. In the area of Tree Plantation, 2285 tree plantlets have been transplanted
in the Union and other units along with grass-loan development totaling 22350 sq. ft. area.
Advanced instruments - developed for chemical analysis of milk four Milk O Scan Major and two Milk O
scan-Minor are operational in laboratories at Sumul Dairy and Chilling Centers. Thus, all analysis can be handled
perfectly.
Nevertheless those who adulterate milk for just little advantage, due to which when samples drawn are
found inferior from chemical and microbiological stand, become crime under new 'Food Safety and Standards
Act' released by Government of India; which lead to infamy and disgrace to the Union. Let us all endeavor to
succeed in all the fields by beaming TQM oriented efforts initiated through camaraderie.

IN THE PRESENCE OF 8000 MAHILA DUDH UTPADAK
"A GRAND MAHILA SEMINAR" WAS ORGANIZED BY SUMUL DAIRY.
A "Mahila Seminar" was organized by Sumul Dairy in
the year 1982. If the strength of the ladies is diverted to the
proper way, will show the amazing result & there are many
examples of the same. To be cooperative, is in nature of
ladies. Today also, rural ladies play an important role in the
economics by agriculture & animal husbandry practices.
They are not trailing even in the business world. Money can
be earned by saving money in the co operatives. This
successful adoption is made successful by them. After
getting good result in the fight "DARU BANDHI" in South
Gujarat, they have shown a good progress in the village by
the management at rural level. To evaluate the above work of
ladies, Sumul Dairy had organized a "MAHILA SEMINAR" at
Bajipura on 25/11/2009. As milk business at rural level is
totally done by ladies, Seminar is organized mainly based on
that the ladies will adopt scientific way for her milk business &
plan to work such a way that they can save money under the
guideline of the experts were being present in the seminar in
which ladies from the milk societies of Surat & Tapi Districts
had been present in a large number by voluntarily made the
seminar memorable. Sumul Dairy pays rupees 513 crores
per year from which 10 lac people get their daily food. In
animal husbandry practice there is increase in the use of AI in
which ladies contribute greatly. So, instead of 2-3 cows, a
ladies milk producer will keep 8-10 cows to become "Gruh
Laxmi" truly. This is the reason behind where Sumul Dairy
had planned to give a milched cow & a pregnant heifer to a
needed lady milk producer. We had a great success in this
"MAHILA SEMINAR" due to the presence of ladies beyond
our expectation made the seminar very precious for us.
