Neil HarperManaging DirectorMorgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners
Til BurgesPrincipal, HarbourVest Partners
This session will open a frank and lively debate among the experienced LPs who took their time to understand the region, and GPs who have few vintages under their belts on how they “explain away” the underperformance of the most recent cycle of vintages both in terms of returns and in terms of deploying capital. The region’s advocates will provide honest answers and then try to make a case on why they believe that the next cycle will be better
• How are the institutional portfolios evolving? How has your allocation to CEE private equity changed in the last five years?
• Core issues with CEE in the eyes of LPs: what answers do LPs want to hear from CEE-focused GPs before committing and how to get them to invest in a GP
• Is capital scarcity coming back? Pros and cons of investing in CEE compared to other markets
• Return outlook. Latest vintage returns. Sober analysis of why the performance of the last cycle was not so good. What investment strategies and propositions work best?
• How do LPs identify the best managers and what measures should GPs be putting in place to win the fight for investors’ funds?
• Market predictions: why should LPs believe that the next cycle will be good and what can be done to give confidence to investors to commit capital to CEE?
