TRANSCRIPT
We have had a great month in our new school building. The office staff
have been hard at work in creating our school data in PowerSchool and
Gradebook. Gradebook should be ready soon. It is a huge task to set
up a new school as we don’t receive our students in our data system until
August 28. We appreciate your patience with this.
It was great to have the Dansereau family in attendance for our Grand
opening ceremony. They left us with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. We
have a special booklet that will be going home to the eldest child in every
family.
Staff continue to collaborate on instructional strategies, policies, proce-
dures and school wide expectations. We will share our school handbook
in draft form but it will be updated as we go through the year.
Contacting Us With Concerns
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have a concern. The appropriate protocol is to speak to
the teacher concerned first and then to admin. We have more success solving issues when you call
or make an appointment to speak with us. Commenting on social media is not the appropriate meth-
od for dealing with concerns.. We look forward to growing and learning together this year.

man Yanitski & Trustee

Inspiring Great Leaders
Our school has started on a journey to “ inspire great leaders”.
We are using the “The Leader in Me” to unify us as a whole school, using common language (7 Hab-
its). Based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, The Leader in Me equips students with the
self-confidence and skills they need to thrive in the 21st-century . It works from the inside out.
Our goal is to develop leadership opportunities for all students in our school—big or small. We be-
lieve that every child is capable of being a leader . We have already had student leaders for some of
our special events and students are learning how to be a leader in their own classrooms.

If you leave your vehi-cle, you may be given a ticket.

Band—Gr. 7-8
The Grade 7 and 8 band is up and running! We spent part of September choosing instruments for students who are new to band and the other part of the month has been spent review-ing notes, fingerings, posture and mouth positions. Students are excited to be starting new pieces, including Christmas music (yes, we start early!!) in preparation for our December concert. We are already sounding great!
Ms. Ingrid Parker,
Jr. High Band Teacher
Welcome to the Music Room!
September has been a very exciting month for us! The students were so excited to see how big the music room was and everyday seemed like Christmas for us. stages.
As our school is working on the 7 Habits, all classes have learned a Leader In Me Cup song.
We have also been working on keeping a steady beat, playing rhythms, singing songs, and of course playing our new instru-ments. Mrs. Amy Olson, Elementary Music Teacher

What are SLAs? It is a new assessment tool the province is providing to help students with their learn-ing.
Over the next few years, they will replace the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). The SLAs will support student learning while more effective-ly assessing literacy, numera-cy, and competencies such as: creativity, communication and the ability to apply knowledge to different sce-
narios. Alberta Education, in partner-ship with classroom teachers, is developing the new SLAs. They will be administered at the start of grades 3, 6, and 9. Timeline September 29—October 24 Assessments are made to be flexible and completed over several days. It will not be a traditional examination with a set date and time.
My Child’s Results A detailed report on each student will be received on November 26, 2014. As this is a pilot year, parents will not be able to access the online individual student re-ports at home. Once pilot status is over, this may be an option. Teachers will be able to share results with parents once we have them available.
Grades 1-8 Students will
dress up only for the after-
noon. They will get dressed
after lunch at 12:50 p.m. Par-
ents are encouraged to do
make-up at home before
school or at home at noon.
There is limited time and
space for makeup application
to be done at school.

ber 31 will be regular classes.

room newsletter for any spe-
cial class activities that may
be happening on this day.
