I still try to write 1999 and wonder where did the time go. I can hardly believe how fast this year went. Many people at the new year make resolutions. They sometimes put a lot of effort to accomplish this resolution. I for one try to take better care of myself, exercise and watch what I eat. I can usually get through the year watching what I eat, But since I really do not like to exercise that usually gets thrown to the wayside. This year I am resolving to stay hydrated. I have been told the more hydrated you are the younger you look. Your skin stays supple and radiant. Your brain can retain information better and you can fight illnesses better. What about you? Are any of you making a resolution? I would love to know what it is... come share so we can help each other keep to our resolutions! Thank you for making 2011 a great year! I look forward to spending this next year with each of you. Happy New Year! “The Hardest, FUN JobYou Will Ever Find”

People say we have the funjob and this is very true, but italso is a hard one, known onlyby a FEW. Others see the parties, games and special events, but dothey realize we have to countevery dollar and cent. Manytimes we have to beg, borrow. We just have to look around forsome really great deals. Wherecan we get puzzles, crafts, andother things we need?Donations and gifts are ablessing indeed. We always haveto be happy and sometimes actlike a clown, but sometimes it’snot that easy when you feel alittle sad and down. You need togo behind the scenes and see theother things we do, like all thepaperwork, schedules, meetings, only to name a few. We need tobe there for our residents, butalso family members, too, we tryto reassure them that Mom orDad will NOT be Blue. Ourworkload is heavy for ourdepartment is small, yet weseem to make it all happenwithout a trip or a fall, yes it istruly a FUN JOB and I wouldn’tchange a thing.

Add to Your Brain PowerNo Matter What Your Age

Did you ever think about thefact that every encounter youhave changes your brain in someway? But it is also encouragingto know that no matter how oldyou are, the choices you makeabout the foods you eat, thethoughts you think, and theactivities you do can make allthe difference.

While strengthening yourbrain may not necessarilyprevent conditions such asAlzheimer’s or other dementias,it may slow the decline we allface as we age. And making theright choices improves yourmemory and problem-solvingabilities, which in turn can help

your self-confidence andself-esteem.

For more about how to makegood choices, take our brainhealth assessment. Go to theEmeritus Senior Living web siteat www.emeritus.com and click onthe box that asks, “How healthyis your brain?”

Senior living communities offer a safe, secure and socialenvironment for active, independent seniors. They areusually set up as apartments and accommodate a largenumber of people. If your loved one can still do everythingfor themselves but would like to live among peers, this is avery good option for them. These communities offer a“maintenance-free” living option and often offer extensiveactivities and programs for their residents. One of the manybenefits of this type of housing is that the individual nolonger has to worry about housekeeping and maintenance, which means they have more time to enjoy their hobbiesand socialize with friends. Many studies have proven thatbeing socially active is good for both mental and physicalhealth. Come TOUR Emeritus at Villa de Anza; we’re openseven days a week!
