Chairman’s Letter March 21, 2013

Dear Chamber Members, APCAC Delegates, and Honored Guests,

Welcome to the 2013 AmCham Hsieh Nien Fan!

For over four decades, AmCham has held an annual dinner to thank Taiwan government officials, elected representatives, and prominent local scholars and business leaders for their cooperation and friendship over the previous year.

This year we are doubly pleased to be able to hold this event in combination with the Gala Dinner of the 2013 APCAC Spring Conference. As always, however, we view this event as one in which fine food and beverages will be enjoyed in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. At AmCham, we take good conversation seriously, so we fully expect members and guests to move from table to table tonight to toast friends and wish them well for the coming year.

We all have much to talk about. In 2012, AmCham hosted more than 550 programs, briefings, advocacy meetings, and events. Roughly two-thirds of these were meetings with Taiwan government officials. We are pleased that we have been able to expand the breadth and depth of our contact with government agencies, legislative offices, political party representatives, and research institutions. This reflects AmCham’s commitment to cooperative support of government policy implementation and to being a reliable source of constructive criticism on business and economic issues.

Again this year, we are honored to have His Excellency President Ma Ying-jeou as our keynote speaker. On behalf of the Board and Members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei, I thank the President and the many officials and other VIP guests who join us here this evening. We at AmCham deeply appreciate our friendship and working relationships with every one of you.

In addition, today we concluded the first day of what we hope will be one of the most productive and informative Spring Conferences put on by APCAC. While looking forward to the second day tomorrow, I wish to express our gratitude to our U.S. government visitors, distinguished speakers, and AmCham delegates from around the region for helping make this program so successful.
