Coyote First STEPHow can families contact their student(s) during the program?Students will have access to their personal cellphones during the program. If you have not heard from your student and you are concerned, please contact our CARE Team at (909) 537-CARE (2273) or [email protected] or call Housing and Residential Education at (909) 537-4155. If you have an emergency and need to reach your student, please contact the University Police Department Dispatch at (909) 537-7777. We ask that you utilize this option only in the case of an emergency or urgent need.
Are students allowed to leave campus?Once students arrive on campus for the fi rst two weeks of Coyote First STEP, they are expected to remain on campus while living in the residence halls unless a student has prior approval. However, students will return home on the weekend (Thursday evening through Sunday evening). For the remaining four weeks while students commute, they are expected to attend class and any required activity.
Will students have free time?Students will engage in essential programming most evenings during the two weeks while living on campus, but there will be plenty of opportunities for free time to engage in activities of their own choosing.
Can parents visit/drop in while students are there?Yes. However, please discuss visits with your student ahead of time to ensure they don’t miss required programs. Please note: No guests are allowed after 10 p.m.
Are students supervised at night?CSUSB enforces quiet hours in all residence halls and on-campus apartments from 10 p.m.-7 a.m. Resident assistants will be assigned to each group of students and will be present in the residence halls to supervise students overnight. Other professional staff members are on-call 24 hours per day and university police offi cers regularly patrol the campus and the residence halls.
Parking PermitsIf you are bringing a vehicle to campus and plan to park
on Sunday, July 29, please park in Lot D and display your
complimentary one-day Parking Permit Flyer face up on your
dashboard or you will receive a parking citation. Make sure to
print the Parking Permit Flyer before you arrive on campus!
If you plan on driving or parking your vehicle on campus for
the duration of the program, you MUST purchase a Summer
Session 2 permit for $57.00. The Summer Session 2 permit will
cover the duration of the program, which is July 29–Sept. 6.

Welcome Day ScheduleCSUSB AT A GLANCE CFS OVERVIEW
Coyote First STEP (CFS) is CSUSB’s response to the
California State University (CSU) system Early Start Program
to promote student success through a six-week supported
math and college transition program. Students live on
campus in university housing for the fi rst two weeks of the
program while they complete a math course and engage in
activities, which are designed to promote college success.
Students experience life in the residence halls, become
better acquainted with the campus and make some new
friends along the way.
This program was
designed to provide
an introduction to
student life at CSUSB
while establishing a
strong foundation
for academic
success. Last year,
