THE LENTEN SEASON The cross will be draped in purple during the six Sundays of Lent. Purple is used for two reasons. The first one is that it is associated with mourning and so anticipates the pain and suffering of the crucifixion of

Jesus. Secondly, it is the color associated with royalty and thus anticipates Christ's resurrection and reign.
