The 2018 Nominations Committee did not have a formal meeting prior to the convention.

The absence of District Staff has made its ugly head apparent this year. There was some confusion as to who was actually on the Nominating Committee. The former chairperson,

Rev. Warren Graff was contacted during the week of May 7, 2018, and he then coordinated

a conference call with Mr. Donald Pugh, Zion Lutheran, Holyoke, CO. and Rev. Alan

Borcher, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Riverton, UT. During the conference call it was

determined with help from the District Secretary, Rev. Donald Widger, that Rev. Warren Graff of Grace Lutheran, Albuquerque, NM nor Mr. Donald Pugh, Zion Lutheran, Holyoke,

CO were on the committee any longer. The only former member of the committee, Rev. Al

Borcher, Holy Trinity Lutheran, Riverton, UT consented to serve and contact the rest of the

committee and consult with President Anderson and District Secretary Rev. Donald Widger. The other committee members elected in 2015 were Mr. Damion Tobias; Ms. Sandra Hicks;

Rev. Seth Clemmer Elected by Acclamation, Mr. Neal Kaspar elected by Acclamation as

Commissioned minister. Rev. Clemmer and Mr. Kaspar have both relocated outside the

Rocky Mountain District. Efforts have been made to inform Mr. Tobias and Ms. Hicks about these events. Consultation with President Anderson, and Secretary Widger have resulted in

this report.

The slate of candidates, as tabulated by the District Secretary and committee chairman, is presented in the order of election: District President, First Vice President, Area Vice

President, Secretary, Board of Directors, Nominations Committee, and Synod's Committee

for Convention Nominations. Where the By-Laws require election by Geographical Area,

the respective area is printed in the Slate of Candidates. Voting Delegates will be able to

identify the incumbents by the asterisks beside their name.

Apologies to the convention for the inadequacies and inefficiencies of your committee, yet

those nominated by the congregations of the Rocky Mountain District of the Lutheran

Church Missouri Synod are herewith presented. It is the suggestion of the committee, in consultation with District President and District Secretary that if vacancies exist,

nominations from the floor are accepted to fill those positions.

“Put on then, as God’s chosen one, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness,

humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint

against another, forgiving each other, as the Lord has forgiven you.” (Col. 3:12)

experiences have been preparatory for the policy, financial, legal, and coordination

responsibilities of a Board member. At a time when congregations have faced

challenges that have made participation at the District level more difficult, and the District, in turn, has been forced to make increasing cutbacks, it is essential to

place renewed emphasis on two–way communication; we must reach out to

congregations, pastors, and members in the pews so they understand the many

and salutary ways they can engage with the “larger church family.” Also a critical priority is giving our utmost to carry out our Lord’s Great Commission. The 21st-

Century culture is not the “safe place” for Christians we thought we saw in much of

the 20th Century. The vast expanse and diverse composition of our District presents

special challenges and opportunities to maintain fidelity to God’s Word, speak the

truth in love, and reach out to as many souls as possible, while continuing faithfully to serve longtime members.
