50th Anniversary Celebration
Two years in the making and finally the day was here. 50 years ago Bushey Grammar School and Alexandra
School merged to create Queens' School. On Saturday 14th September 2019 Queens' School held a day of
two events for all ex-pupils and current/ex staff to celebrate the 50th Anniversary. The first event of the day
consisted of an Afternoon Tea where 167 people attended and were also able to walk around both the North
and South sides bringing back their own memories of their time spent at Queens'.
In the evening, 256 people attended and joined in
with an Evening Party. Food was provided by
Spitting Pig and music by the live band of Beatroute.
The North side was available for people to walk
around. Raffle tickets were sold throughout both
events raising over £1,000 and was drawn during the
evening by Mr Morrell, Mr James and Mr Scarth.
All attendees were registered in at each function on house coloured registers receiving a label with their
name, house colour and year that they started Queens' to make everyone easily recognisable. Everyone went
home with a gift of a specially designed Queens' 50th mug and pen. Ex-pupils who were unable to attend
have also been purchasing mugs following the event and the furthest a mug has travelled so far is to
America.
Throughout the day a screen show of old photos was constantly run in the North canteen and this room was
decorated with lots of old photos and memorabilia. The QPA ran a bar throughout both events in two shifts.
As well as celebrating 50 years of the school, rekindling of old friendships was the aim of the day and this
was more than achieved. So many people are now back in touch with each other with groups being created
on Watsapp and Facebook. Everyone who attended commented on what a fantastic day it had been and
asked when the next one was happening.
Mugs are £5.00 each and there are only 25 left should anyone wish to purchase one. We also have 95 pens
left costing £1.00 each. If you wish to make a purchase please contact: [email protected]
Lots of thanks go to Tina Beavis-White, Kristina Davis and Rakesh Patel for all their hard work over the last
2 years and for raising over £5,000 for the school.
