The 50th anniversary celebration is to recognize the Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center (BNAACC) leadership, staff, students, alumni, and organizational affiliates, to the Illinois campus and broader Urbana-Champaign community. This weekend-long celebration will provide attendees with a glimpse of the past and hope for the future of the BNAACC. The event will begin with the official Grand Re-Opening Ceremony and 50th Celebration Welcome Banquet. The remainder of the weekend will be a focus on student and alumni engagement activities.

Thank you for reviewing our sponsorship brochure, which highlights a range of opportunities and outlines the benefits of each level of support. As we rely on organizations that are truly committed to encouraging Black students to succeed in higher education, we urge your company to participate at the highest level you can.

The BNAACC was opened in the fall of 1969 in response to calls from African American students. The former Afro-American Cultural Program at Illinois was rededicated in 2004 to honor the late Bruce Delmar Nesbitt, the longest serving director in the history of the program. This year, the BNAACC completed construction of a new building and returned services to its previous location on the corner of Matthews and Nevada streets.

The BNAACC 50th Anniversary Celebration committee supports a variety of objectives through its preparation of a weekend-long event, including: • Recognize contributions of the Nesbitt family, former and current directors, staff, alumni, and affiliated campus and community organizations. • Empower current students to plan, implement, and participate in all anniversary weekend activities. • Demonstrate the historical significance, current contributions, and future of Black student life and culture at Illinois. • Engage alumni as fiscal supporters of the BNAACC.

Today more than ever, we must combat the hate against cultural difference that is being expressed in our Nation. We would like to use this as a unique opportunity to come together as a community to demonstrate the value of each student who attends our campus.

While the BNAACC has committed seed money devoted to its 50th celebration, the center continues to be challenged with limited resources to host an anniversary celebration and conduct its annual programming.

Please know that organizations like yours provide the critical resources needed to carry out this important event. We trust this material will address any initial questions, and we look forward to discussing the Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center 50th Anniversary Celebration sponsorship opportunities with you further.
