Since 2001, METU has been involved in ÖYP which was supported by the then State Planning Organization (DPT).
Aim was to train academic staff for newly established universities in Turkey and later the project was extended to some neighboring countries.

Social Responsibility Project
through which it could not only help to train the much needed academic staff for the newly-established universities, but alsoto create a strong research base and a network among scholars.

graduate students within the ÖYP.

During their studies at METU, graduate students of the ÖYP program have a budget for attending international conferences, for their research projects and for spending longer period of time (6-16 months) abroad to work on their research topics after their qualifying examination.

METU has taken this project very seriously and spent time and effort in administering the program, organizing different trips for the students to their universities as well as Orientation Graduate Seminars once a year on different topics for the development of students as instructors.

SAN-TEZ idea was supported by the General Director of Research of Ministry of Industry Mr. Ziya Karabulut and his Advisor Ms. İvgen Özdal (a graduate of METU Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department).

The structure of these projects is based on inventing a product or a method with a graduate thesis study for an industrial company.
At METU, 27 Projects are finalized. Many are continuing, with many new proposals.

We consider this innovative project as an example of scientific and social impact of METU on Turkey’s scientific community and industry by generating an economic development through the value added products and methods.
