5 Things Every Presenter Needs to Know about

    People

    1. People learn best in 20-minute chunks. People

enjoythemselves more, learn and retain more in 20-

minutechunks. This is why TED videos are so

    successful.

    2. Multiple sensory channels compete. During a

talk, youengage both the auditory and visual

channels. Werevisualcreatures and the visualchannel beats theauditory channel. Make sure

your slides dontrequire people to read too much.

    When your audience isreading, theyre

    not listening.

    3. What you say is only one part of your message.

People make very quick unconscious decisions about

    other people. Paralinguistics explores how

information iscommunicated beyond the words you

say be aware theaudience is responding to your

body language and tone.Record yourself presenting

to get a feel for those andadjust accordingly.

    4. If you want people to act, you have to call

them toaction. At the end of your presentation, beveryspecific about exactly what you would like

    youraudience to do.

    5. People imitate your emotions and feel

yourfeelings. People imitate what they see. If

    yourepassionate about your topic, your

audience will be passionate. Donthold back!

What are the 8 secrets of success.
