Who Am I?
I am a Black-TailedJackrabbit. I amusually 18-24inches long. Iusually weigh 4-8pounds. I havereally long ears andlong front and backlegs.
The Early Years
I give birth to 1-6young at a time. I’mcovered with fur andmy eyes are open whenI’m born. When mymother goes out to findfood she hides heryoung. When she isupon returning theyuse there call to locateeach other. I stay withmy mother a few weeksafter I’m born.
Habitat Sweet Habitat
I live in meadows,prairies, farmlands,sand dunes. I sleepin prairies in theday.
What’s on the Menu?
I eat grasses andleafy vegetation inthe summer. I alsoeat woody or driedvegetation in thewinter.
Making Tracks
Jackrabbit trackscan be found in thesand , mud, and thesnow. There are 3inner toes and 1outer toe on me.

I have excellenthearing. My ears are5 inches long. Myhind feet can be 53/4 inches long.The commonpredators ofJackrabbits areOwls, Snakes,Foxes, And Hawks.
Where in the World?
I can usually befound in thewestern UnitedStates fromWashington southto California east toNebraska andTexas. I am aintroduced specie toKentucky and NewJersey.
Did You Know? A female jackrabbit
only suckles heryoung once a day.She doesn’t spendmore than 5-10minutes withthem.It flashes theunderside of its tailwhen threatened.
Fun Fact! They can get into a
speed of 50 milesper hour. When theyare running fastthey can leap ashigh as 5 feet.
