time frames? Reflecting on this challenge,Hemant Mohagaonkar, Executive VicePresident and Head of Cooling & Heatingpointed out that the velocity of change
and continuous improvement are the keyelements in an efficient supply chain.The vision of Heating SBU treblingrevenues in the next two years, shared byV. Radhakrishnan, SBU Head of Heating,called for team work for mutual growth.
On their part, the 30 participatingcompanies assured the heating group of theircontinuing support. Anant Bapat ofDampfKoelben noted that working withThermax for the last 25 years has been agreat joy. Opportunities that Thermax
offered for innovation and development alsocame in for appreciation from severalparticipants.
Thermax was conferred the 'CIINational HR Excellence Award2009' in July in recognition of its
leadership in HR excellence.
The honour came the company's way after arigorous assessment of its leadership, HRstrategy and processes, its employees'competencies and their engagement level.Independent assessors appointed by CIIevaluated the strengths and opportunities forimprovement, made site visits to validate theapplication and met the leadership team tounderstand how HR strategy aligned with
that of the business. Thermax qualifiedthrough a regional round to reach thenational finals and shared the top awardwith Hindustan Unilever Ltd.
Winning the national award this year was astep ahead of the commendation award thatThermax won in 2008 at the western regionlevel.

Thermax was chosen for the BestCompany Award by the BKKMTrade Union on May 1st,
Maharashtra Day and Worker's Day. It was adouble triumph for Thermax as Anu Agawas also honoured with the AudhyogikShantata Purskar (Industrial Peace Award).
At a high profile felicitation ceremony inMumbai, S. Ramchandran, Executive VicePresident of Thermax accepted the awards
from the Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan.
The union of the Paudh Plant of Chemicaldivision is affiliated to the BharatiyaKamagar Karmachari Mahasangh (BKKM)trade union. The union instituted theseawards from this year, to honourorganisations whose management and
workmen share a cordial and productiverelationship.
The 2nd batch of the ThermaxGraduate Program (TGP) passedout in August 2010 at a
convocation ceremony witnessed by thecollege faculty and C&H leadership team.The 18 youngsters, transformed intoknowledgeable and competent technicians,can now look forward to operationalpositions at Thermax sites across thecountry.
The programme, in collaboration withSinhagad College of Engineering, handpicksfresh science graduates for a 12 monthcurriculum to hone their theoreticalknowledge, familiarise them with productsand hands on approach" in areas specific toThermax's business. Fireside congratulatesthe entire batch and wishes them the verybest as they begin their training on sites, andtheir career with Thermax.

theme during the outbound session, the
teams across marketing, innovation,engineering and technical servicescommitted themselves to achieve higherlevels of efficiency. Facilitated by HR, theprogram included a candid discussion anddrawing up an agenda to enhance the

in July 2010 at a resort overlookingthe misty backwaters of the Bhatgar Damnear Pune. The group from across thecountry relished the idea of taking a breakfrom the confines of the office to revisit theirstrategy to grow more profitably.
With a blend of departmental presentations,
and fun and games, the meet rekindled theservice team's spirit. At the end of the threeday conference, there was renewed vigour tosurpass their targets.

Aiming to enrich various dimensionsof diversity of its workforce,Thermax is increasing the number
of women employed. It is also addressing theconcerns of its existing women employees.
Several measures have been rolled out to
address the issue. These include theWomen's Open Forum which sawparticipation from over 100 employees;
identification of women buddies with whomothers can share their concerns; theavailability of an in house counselor andrecruitment of women workers and staff onmerit. The HR team is confident ofincreasing the percentage of women in thecompany from the present 6% level to 10%in the next two years.

The first batch of 39 employees acrossThermax divisions and functionsgraduated with an Executive Post
Graduate Diploma in Business Managementin September.
Held in partnership with the Symbiosis
Institute of Business Management,employee-candidates are selected through astringent evaluation process. The 18 month
course covers general management streamsand aims to enhance their technicalproficiency with managerial competence.
In keeping with its focus on learning anddevelopment, the management developmentprogramme at Thermax is in its seventh year
and the next batch of 39 students isunderway.

workshop for 28 senior Customsofficials in September. Designed on
the request of the Pune Commissioner ofCustoms, R Sekhar, the workshop was oninterpersonal skill development. SujataDeshpande from the Learning andDevelopment team customised the program
to include team building activities, sensitivity
training, management videos andpsychometric tests.
Jacob George, the EXIM chief spearheadedthis second training program for the Customsteam to improve collaboration betweengovernment departments and the privatesector.

Seventy-five delegates from Indian andMNC outfits converged on Kotputli,Rajasthan, the focus of their visit
being Thermax boilers installed at GrasimIndustries' 2x23 MW captive power plant.The visit was part of a two-day conferenceorganised by the Boiler and Heater (B&H)group in nearby Jaipur. Senior personnelfrom design and engineering explained
IR-CFB technology(internal recirculation circulating fluidizedbed boilers), deployed at the power plant.

We regret the demise of two of our employees,both from B&H Manufacturing.
Pankaj D Patil expired on 29th June 2010 in Mumbaiafter a battle with pneumonia. It was a road accident on
23rd July 2010 that took the life of Rahul Dighe.
We pray that their souls rest in peace and offer ourcondolences to the bereaved members of their families.

Seventy teammates of the B&HMaterials group recently distancedthemselves from supply chains and
spare part purchase. They were only toohappy to enjoy the sun, surf and sand on ashort trip to Goa.
The train journey was a welcome break fromthe daily commute and it only got betterwith sight seeing, beach volleyball andpicnics. On the way back there was amemorable stopover at the Dudhsagarwaterfall.

Football mania was revivedas the Thermax team wona corporate football
tournament in August. Thermax
beat Nihilent Technologies 3-2 totake home the Premiers Trophy atthe tournament organized bySportz Consult, an organiser forcorporate sport events.
10 teams largely drawn from ITcompanies put up a stiffcompetition but Thermax bravelyand skillfully faced Fujitsu andAXA Tech to find their rightfulplace in the finals. The teamcredits their triumph to the hours

Aanand Ladgaonkar and Hemant Thorat from Savli Heating had notrouble answering these questions which took them to the Runner Upposition in the 7th Tata Crucible Corporate Quiz. Five differentrounds tested the 47 participants on the most unusual corporatehappenings, facts and trivia. They were among the six finalists in theregional round at IIM, Ahmedabad, the others being ITC, IBM,Triton Communications, Vodafone and Endeavour Systems.
Anand and Hemant had also bagged 4th place in the regional finalsof the Brand Equity Quiz in Ahmedabad in June 2010.
akhtawar Battiwalla from Chinchwad factory won theregional secretary of the year award at a contest organizedby the Indian Association of Secretaries and Administrative
Professionals (IASAP) in August 2010. She was judged the best inteam management skills among the 14 contestants.
Bakhtawar has been invited to attend the 20th ASA (Associationof Secretaries and Administrative Professionals in Asia-Pacific)Congress at Taipei in October 2010.
inanath Akela, a graduate engineer trainee from B&HServices presented a technical paper at an internationalconference of science and engineering, conducted by
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) inBangalore in April 2010.
This project on Hydrodynamic study of cold model of bubblingfluidized bed system using bubble caps finds application in thefluidization of sand bed in the boiler industry. Dinanath, who was afinal year BE (Power) student at National Power Training Institutecompleted this research project at the Central MechanicalEngineering Research Institute, Durgapur .
achel Kshatriya, daughter of Sangita and Ravi from EXIM,won her first prize at playing the violin at a contest held by
the New Life Centre, Pune. A student of western classicalmusic, Rachel also plays for the group, Magic of Strings.

Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
Currently working with B&H, Somnath completed his engineeringin Power from National Power Training Institute, the West BengalUniversity of Technology.
rajakta Joshi from EXIM has cleared the IPMA(International Project Management Associate - Level D)examination. This certification helps upgrade project
management skills, thus providing a competitive edge toorganizations and career growth for individuals while improvingcapability to deliver better, faster and less expensive products andservices.
An Electronics Graduate, Prajakta has been with Thermax for five
years. She is a Gold Medalist in MBA International Business andhas completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Foreign Trade.
