5
reasons
why the future you will love
self-driven cars
Commuting everyday to work has become more taxing than the day at work itself, hour long traffic
queues and endless traffic snarls that just donÔÇÖt seem to end. But that is one problem that could be
solved in the near future by self-driven cars.
Google has been issued the first of a kind license by the Nevada state for their self-driven cars. Even
Audi has provided funding to Stanford team of automotive engineers who will be sending an Audi TT RS
to the PikeÔÇÖs Peak Hill Climb. It will be the first autonomous car to perform this feat. An article by
Mashable highlights the 5 reasons why you will love self-driven cars and who knows we might see one on
the roads sooner than we think.
The most relaxing part of the day
When self driven cars become mainstream imagine what world would be. Commuting will become the
most relaxing part of your day rather than the most taxing. you could do anything from gaming on your
Xbox to catching up on sleep to even having a date in the car. Would that be cool or what. And all that
without the worry of getting lost or late to work.
Sayonara red lights
Now if the manual cars go extinct the red lights will have to follow. Imagine a world where there are no
traffic lights. No stopping no emergency brakes and no trying to catch the light and ending up in a tree
business either.
Since the cars will be autonomous they will be able to judge the oncoming cars and the distance to the
car in front by the millimeters and will be much more efficient at taking those turns than us humans.
Hypermiling saves gas
Hypermiling basically refers to ways a car can maximize its fuel economy. It basically includes smooth
braking and acceleration and a tail wind always helps. Now with computers driving the cars hypermiling
will be done much more efficiently compared to what we humans can manage.
Plus the makers of Autonomo an autonomous car of the future came up with an ingenious way to save
fuel. They devised a mechanism where a bunch of Autonomos can cluster together to form one unit as a
result the aerodynamic drag is minimized which aides fuel economy.
Safer roads
This is a bit obvious if you take the people off the roads you wonÔÇÖt have accidents. Most accidents
occur due to negligent driving, it only takes a second to be distracted and a second for a crash to occur.
If the cars are doing all the work then the distracted, sleepy and drunk lot wonÔÇÖt be harming anyone
and the rest of us can rest easy.
Carpooling becomes cool
HereÔÇÖs something interesting when the future you is not using your car while you are at work or at
home you can use your car for the greater good by letting people who donÔÇÖt have cars use it as a taxi
or rental car.
This is a new hybrid car rental program for autonomous cars and it makes perfect sense because since
your car will be driving around itself the chances of you getting a repair bill will be miniscule. Also such
car sharing could also result in much more efficient use of resources as the cars will no longer be sitting
idle during the day and doing nothing.
The autonomous car might still be a good decade away but imagine the impact they will have on our lives
once they do become mainstream. But hopefully people will still consider their cars a family member and
not just a transportation tool.
