December 20, 2015
“God never gives someone a gift they are not capable of receiving. If he gives us the gift of Christmas, it is because we all have the ability to understand and receive it.” Pope Francis As I read these words, I was reminded that God offers us, and gives us, gifts every moment of every day. The question is…are we prepared to receive the gifts? Do we truly understand that gifts are being given? The first breath of a new day, food to eat, clothes to wear, a roof over our heads, a place to worship, people to love and people that love us, are all gifts. As Christians, we all know that everything we have comes from God, but as human beings, sometimes we forget; we take for granted the fact that our everyday needs are being met. We fall into a routine where sometimes we forget to be grateful, we forget to share or give back, and we forget that even with all of life’s challenges, there are blessings. I believe that in the Pope’s message he is telling us that God gives us
Christmas because we all have the ability to understand and receive this beautiful gift in the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ. I think his message goes one step further in that he is telling us that we need to be open to receive not only this wonderful gift of love and peace in our hearts at Christmas, but every day!
I have found that the celebration of Christmas tends to bring out the very best in all of us. We seem to be more aware of the needs of others, we are motivated to give, and we spend less time thinking about ourselves and more time thinking of others. This holiest of days seems to work like a shot of adrenalin to our soul. It stirs up, awakens the kindness, the caring, the love we have in our hearts and souls throughout the year, and the very best of us comes to the surface.
As I reflect on the past six months, I acknowledge and thank you for your many “gifts”. The gifts of your prayers, kindness, help and support have all made me feel welcome. I am grateful for my new home here at St. Michael. Please know that it is my honor to celebrate and share the “gift” of Christmas with all of you. My prayer for my new parish family, the good people of St. Michael, is that the spirit that awakened in you this Christmas season as we journeyed through Advent together will remain in your hearts throughout the year. Wishing you the gift of Christmas and God’s blessings in the New Year!

The Holy Hour includes the following: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Morning Prayer from Liturgy of the Hours, ample time for personal prayer, and Benediction. With so much tragedy in our world we often wonder what one person can do. The Church, especially through the saints, has always recommended that we... PRAY! PRAY! PRAY!
A Note from Donna Davis: It was my honor to be a part of the office staff and serve as the parish bookkeeper for the past 18 years. I valued the trust that was placed in me, and the support I was given. My sincere thanks to Father Aaron for the special blessing at Mass on November 28th, and thank you to the parish for my beautiful St. Michael Medal, I will treasure it always. Please know I appreciate all of the kindness shown me, and the many notes, cards and words of faith and encouragement over the past few months. Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers as I continue to pray for all of you! Donna
