James 1:5 Book Week Costumes Book Week Costumes! Dressing up in your favourite characters, heroes, villains and even a book cover is so much fun! Our main focus this week is on Book Week. We hope you find the following ideas helpful in the making of the costume of your choice. Book week is a great opportunity for parents and children to brainstorm all sorts and types of costumes. Think about girls’ or boys’ and unisex costumes!  To some parents, this is the time to put their creative mind to work for others it is a dreadful or stressful moment but it doesn’t have to be. Costumes should be easy and enjoyable to make with your children. Think of all the characters in stories (from both African and Western authors) you or your child have read. Think of the movies that are made out of story books e.g. Jungle book, Babe, e.t.c. Better still, you could think of the history books  you have read of Ancient Egyptian mummies, pick out some characters, discuss with you child on how easy or hard it is to make that costume and eliminate those you and your child think are not easy to make. More so, think of the non-fiction personalities in stories that have interested the young and old: Aristotle and Scorates of Ancient Greece; Florence Nightingale (the lady with the lamp); Nelson Mandela of South Africa; Malala of Pakistan; Mahatma Gandhi of India; among others. How about dressing up like characters in Bible stories: Joseph and his coat of many colours; David with his sling; Miriam and a basket with Moses in it. Most children enjoy reading books about their favourite sports personalities in: football, tennis, cricket, rugby, netball, etc. You are indeed spoilt by choice.
