GLIMPSE OF FAITHABSOLUTION

What is

sacramental

satisfaction?

Sacramental

satisfaction is the

penitential work

imposed by the

confessor on the

penitent in order to

make up for the

offense committed

against god and

atone for the

temporal punishment

due to sins already

forgiven. This act of

penance

or satisfaction

should also help the

sinner begin a new

life and provide him

with antidote to

weakness.

What penitential

works maybe

suitably imposed

for sacramental

satisfaction?

Penitential works

which may be suitably

imposed for

sacramental

satisfaction are

prayer, self-denial,

and

especially service of

one’s neighbor and

works of mercy

which underline the

social aspect that sin

and its forgiveness

have.

When should the

sacramental

penance be

fulfilled?

If the confessor has

not assigned a

specific time for it,

the sacramental

penance should be

fulfilled as soon as

possible.

What kinds of

punishment

are due to

sin?

Two kinds of

punishment are due

to sin: The eternal

punishment of hell,

due to

unforgiven

mortal sins, and

temporal punishment,

lasting only for a

time, due to venial

sins and also to

mortal sins after

they have been

forgiven.

Does the worthy

reception of the

sacrament of

penance always

take away all

punishment?

The worthy reception

of the sacrament of

penance always takes

away all the eternal

punishment, but it

does not always take

away all temporal

punishment.
