Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I have written this letter on Monday, May 6th, and
Tuesday May 7th, within my first 24 hours in Jerusalem.
Over the past several days I have made some very
specific prayers, for you in our parishes, and for many
people in Vermont and throughout the world. Thus I
send my prayer notes to you, to share right away. In the
order of the places I have visited on this pilgrimage, here
are those that I prayed for.
On the site where Jesus multiplied the bread and fish to
feed the 5000 people, I prayed for Eucharistic devotion to
grow within you all. On the site where the Resurrected
Lord gave cooked fish to the disciples, the same place
where He asked Peter three times “do you love me?”, I
prayed for our Holy Father, our bishop, and all bishops.
(See John 21 where Jesus said to Peter “feed my lambs,
feed my sheep.”)
On top of the Mountain where Jesus preached the
Sermon on the Mount, and the Beatitudes, I began to pray
for all our priests. On the top of Mount Tabor where Jesus
was Transfigured before Peter James and John, I
continued to pray for the rest of the priests in the Diocese.
At the chapel in Cana, the place where Jesus performed
his first public miracle at a wedding, I prayed for all
couples whom I have worked with or presided at for a
wedding ceremony. At Nazareth, I prayed for all the
families of my parishes, reading through the family
names printed out as best as I could.
In Jerusalem at The Church of the Pater Noster, said to be
the place where Jesus taught his disciples the Our Father,
I made an offering and inscribed this intention; “For the
faithful and the Dioceses of the United States, and our
non-Catholic baptized brothers and sisters in Christ, and
all who profess the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit, in Jesus Christ our Savior.”
In the Garden of Gethsemane, where our Lord prayed on
the Mount of Olives before he was betrayed by Judas, I
left the printed names of the families of our parish, and of
the priests in the Diocese. (A pile of papers with prayers
collected at the base of one of the largest olive trees
seemed to be the "common" place to do so).
All these prayers I have already carried in my heart to the
Holy Sepulcher of Jesus, and to the place where Mary
Magdalene met the risen Lord. I also got to receive
benediction through the Blessed Sacrament there, from
the same risen Lord. Peace be with you this weekend. See
you soon.
In Christ, with Mary, Fr. Timothy Naples

May 11–17, 2019 FOR THE DIOCESE OF BURLINGTON
T he 2019 World Day of Prayer for Vocations is observed on Sunday, May 12, also known as “Good Shepherd Sunday.” The purpose of this day is to publically fulfill the Lord’s instruction
to, “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). As a climax to a prayer that is continually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its
attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apostol-ic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life, in the particular sense of mission “ad gentes”. Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord’s call to the priesthood, diacon-ate, religious life, societies of apostolic life or secular institutes. You can find many resources to promote a culture of vocations on the USCCB Vocations webpage (www.usccb.org/vocations). 2019 marks the 56th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations.
