We are Tackling Reading!Accelerated Reader For Quarter 1 (update):This Quarter’s theme is all about football. The student’s are trying to move themselves across the football field to complete a touchdown. They earn yardage as they pass their AR tests. Most of their goals range between 10-20 points, however we are moving along based on the percentage of their individual goals. So far Jackie is in the lead! Let’s work hard to reach those goals! 4th graders should be able to test at home too! Parents, please encourage your child to keep reading (about 20 minutes a night) and to do their very best!
Book Club Books (Small Group Reading)Most days we spend some time reading books that are “high interest” books for 4th graders. I like to give students a choice in what they read every once in a while. Below is a list of what we’re reading and who is in each club! These books can take anywhere from 3 days to 2-3 weeks to read. I have witnessed students really soar in AR and learn to enjoy reading when maybe they weren’t interested in books before!

Schedule Changes: I am trying different things with our schedule and the kids have been super patient with me in the process. I am learning that we need to place more emphasis on grammar as we are really struggling on that portion of our weekly assessments. I will send an updated schedule as soon as we get all the kinks worked out!
The fourth graders wanted me to send out information for activities and events that are coming up at Fort Sisseton so I copied and pasted the following information from the park’s website.
Family Fun Opportunities at Fort Sisseton: HAUNTED FORT TOUR
Date: Saturday, October 10, 2015Time: 1 - 8 p.m.In the afternoon there will be fun fall themed activities and crafts for the entire family, but beware after the sun goes down! After dusk, tours of our Haunted Fort will begin and while the soldiers won't be able to attend, they'll be there in spirit...

FRONTIER CHRISTMASDate: Saturday, December 12, 2015Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.'Tis the season! Come share in the festivities at the fort as we celebrate Christmas in classic 1860s fashion as only Fort Sisseton can. There will be close to a dozen make and take craft stations, handmade decorations, festive treats, and of course caroling! Be sure to bring the kids and make sure they're not naughty because Father Christmas will be making a stop to check up on all his favorite children!
