Good morning, my name is Lisa Gerencser.

As an employee, resident and stakeholder I ask that you take very serious consideration before moving forward with the RFP process.

It was during my senior year at Marshall HS, while an intern for Jackie Goldberg's City Council campaign that my true devotion for this City began.

At 19 I started working for this City as a Recreation Assistant, and currently I am an Executive Administrative Assistant at the Zoo Department.

I have several questions and suggestions, but for the sake of brevity I will only ask a few relative to the proposed draft RFP for an AMS for the Zoo Department:

1. How is it that the Zoo department is such a drain on the General Fund that an RFP for an AMS is the

first course of action the City Council takes to ease its budget woe?

2. As with the Library Department last fiscal year, the Zoo Department should warrant more options

including possible ballot initiatives asking the residents to support their Zoo. The Council should work

with the Board of County Supervisors to initiate a countywide vote, as the LA Zoo, serves the entire

county of Los Angeles not just this city's residents.

3. If the Zoo were allowed to manage itself in a less bureaucratic manner, and our partner GLAZA,

continued their great fund raising efforts and were allowed to possibly increase their role in the areas of

marketing and public relations, wouldn't that be more efficient and effective than a completely new

management structure? This would allow the Zoo to become a self sustaining proprietary department.

All while under City management, the Los Angeles Zoo has transformed over my lifetime, into a vibrant educational facility and conservation leader. The uniqueness of the Zoo is why it became its own department in 1997, and now, it is time again for the Zoo to progress and improve even further. Let the Zoo Department have the opportunity to manage itself more efficiently and permit it to grow into a proprietary department; this is one way to insure the LA Zoo remains accessible for all City and County residents.

While my job is protected under my current MOU, my job location is not. The past 4% years employed at the LA Zoo have been educational, challenging, and rewarding, and it is my wish to continue to work for this Department that has a positive effect on the lives of both staff and visitors. You must allow those of us employed in both the common and zoo unique classes to continue working for the Zoo Department as it is the work of the entire City Zoo Staff that keeps the Zoo thriving.
