November 26, 2017 Christ the King Thirty-Fourth Sunday Reflection on the Gospel Mt 25/31-46 A big thing in life is where you are from. We say ‘your accent betrays you’. Sometimes we judge totally on where people are from. Pilate was the same with Jesus. With all he knew of him and heard, the miracles and the speeches – where are you from? Are you a king really? What sort is your kingdom?

Pilate was intrigued always with Jesus and so are we.

Our Christian life is getting to know Jesus more, and taking part in his mission. The type of person he was. That he came from God and from humanity. He speaks of the best of God and the best of us, the best of heaven and the best of earth. He is worth our following.

Our role/vocation is that we are called to be like him. Our mission is a calling to live like him in love and service.

‘FROM ABOVE’

There is the ‘from above’ in Jesus and much of John’s gospel stresses the divinity of Christ. He doesn’t look very divine but he does look very human. In the human is the divine. So we could be like him. We become like him by reading about his life and living like he did.

King is a strange feast….he never wanted it. But he didn’t want a lot that happened to him. He took it on out of love. What sort of king do we meet?

One of truth, justice, compassion and love. The defender of the poor. The King who prays.

A good ending of one church year to begin another. King and servant. We’ll see more of what it’s all like in the weeks of December. Meantime we want to live in this reign of God and pray and live – your kingdom come.

Faith Sharing Questions …

• How often do you find yourself

mentally entertaining social

prejudices?

• After reading this gospel, do you

feel your life’s work is reflective

of the sheep or goats? Why?

• When do you find it difficult to do

what Jesus is asking us to do?

Why?

From the Pastor

Greetings of Peace. I am out of town and will return for mass on Sunday December 3, 2017. While I am away there is not a “daily mass” at the par-ish. If there is the need for an anointing or a funeral while I am away, the priests at our neighboring parishes have offered to as-sist, as they are able. Thank you, Fathers! Here are a few cute stories that may make you smile!

1. After the baptism of his baby brother in church, little Billy sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car. His father asked him a few times, “What is wrong, Billy?” Finally, the boy replied, "At the baptism, that preacher said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home, and I wanted to stay with you guys!" 2. Terri asked her Sunday School class to draw pictures of their favorite Bible stories. She was puzzled by Kyle's picture, which showed four peo-ple on an airplane. So she asked him which story it was meant to repre-sent. “The flight to Egypt,” said Kyle. “I see. And that must be Mary, Jo-

seph, and Baby Jesus; but who's the fourth person?” Kyle replied, “Oh, that's Pontius -- the Pi-lot!” 3. The Sunday School teacher asked, “Now, Johnny, tell me: Do you say prayers before eating?” Little Johnny replied, “No. I don't have to. My Mom is a good cook!” Finally, looking ahead, Friday December 8 is the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary - a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses on Decem-ber 8 are 8:00 am, 12:00 noon, and 7:00 pm. Blessings and Peace,

Fr. Gary

St. Joan of Arc Catholic School News By Mrs. Shelley DiBacco,

School Principal

Faith. Academics. Excellence

Our third graders were busy Tuesday afternoon making cards and treat bags for children of Chagrin Falls Park. They placed pencils, small toys, notepads, and treats inside the bags to make children feel special on Thanksgiv-ing. They had so much fun and got a true sense of how blessed they are. The students also collected food to distribute for Thanksgiving dinner. Chagrin Falls Park Community Center provides after school and summer programs for elementary, middle and high school students from primarily minority families in the low to moderate income range. Our principal, Mrs. DiBacco, recently returned from the annual Principal’s Leadership Conference. The theme of this year’s conference was “Better Together”. The keynote speaker was Dr. Ellen Wedemeyer who spoke about meeting the needs of diverse learners in Catholic schools. She provided the principals with the knowledge and the information necessary to shape instruction for those who learn and behave differently. Dave Rendall closed the conference with a presentation on “discovering uniqueness by flaunting weakness”. David stands by the statement “what makes you weird also makes you exceptional and what makes you weak also makes you strong.” Here at St. Joan of Arc School we will be exploring these ideas more so we can grow and become “better together”. On Wednesday, November 29th, St. Joan of Arc School will host a “Countdown to Kindergarten Visit Day”. Any child who will be ready for Kindergarten in the fall of 2018 is invited to come and spend some time in our Kindergarten classroom. Our visitors will be working on a fun project with our current Kindergarteners. Two times slots are available 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 1:00-2:00 p.m. Come see what we are all about! Register by calling the school office 440-247-6530. Save the date! St. Joan of Arc PTO will be sponsoring “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, December 9th from 9:00AM until 12:00PM in the Olsavsky Center. There will be crafts, pictures with Santa, cookie decorating and more! This event promises to be fun for the entire family so be sure to mark the date on your calendars. Our annual Santa’s Shop will also take place on Thursday, December 7th. Important Dates to Remember: November 27 – Classes Resume November 29 – Kindergarten Visit Day November 30 – 2nd grade 1st Reconciliation Parent Meeting 7-8:15PM 1st Penguin Project Rehearsal
