Introducing the 2012 Indian Chief ® Motorcycles. A line of motorcycles as pure as the road itself. Just looking at
one, with its deep-valanced fenders, chromed teardrop headlamp and genuine leather seat, takes you back to an
era when Indian Chiefs ruled the roadways of America. Sitting on one, well, that makes you long to be out riding,
instead of merely sitting. Built around Indian’s stylish, world-renowned 105 cubic-inch PowerPlus engine, every
Indian Chief in the 2012 lineup is not only a handcrafted work of art, it’s a powerful force to be reckoned with.
1909 - Cannonball Baker won the fi rst race run at Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course. 10
Originally introduced in 1916, PowerPlus is known by many as the engine that changed American
motorcycling. And today, the legend is in more than capable hands. Continually refined throughout its
storied history, PowerPlus has recently received performance enhancements and improvements
from Polaris’s engineering expertise, making it better than ever before, while ensuring it remains
as classic, stylish and handcrafted as it ever was.
1911 - Indian swept the podium at the fi rst Isle of Man Mountain Course Race. 12
Based on the 1940 Chief, arguably the finest motorcycle of its time, the
2012 Indian Chief Vintage picks up right where its predecessor left off.
But don’t be fooled by its throwback appearance, it is undoubtedly built
for the road ahead. All the way from its air-cooled pushrod PowerPlus
105ci engine to its distressed tan leather with fringe covering the seat and
saddlebags, stunning two-tone paint scheme, chrome Indian tank badge,
60-spoke chrome wheels with classic whitewall tires, and of course, its
distinctive Indian fender light. It is a bike flowing with tradition, style and
comfort. What more could you ask for?
13 14
Like all Indian Chief motorcycles, the Dark Horse is abundantly rich in
tradition. Sharing the same bold, daredevil spirit as the infamous Indian
“Wrecking Crew” racers of the ‘50s. Ready for anything the road throws its
way, its powder-coated, pure blacked-out finish and stunning warbonnet
headdress tank design instantly let you know that it is not a bike for
the faint of heart. Matte-black spoke wheels, black engine with chrome
covers, and a thick double-stitched solo black seat with fringe complete
the package. It’s undoubtedly mischievous, and unmistakably Indian.
15 16
The Indian Chief Classic is a flawless tribute to the days when motorcycles
were less fluff and more substance. Built of the bare essentials, the Chief
Classic is anything but stripped down, providing all you need to cruise
the roadways in style and comfort. Things like a thick solo black leather
seat with hand-sewn double stitching, a 105ci PowerPlus engine, two-into-
one stainless steel exhaust system and chromed spoke wheels. It’s a pure,
timeless machine that’s respected wherever it may roam.
17 An overhead cam, four-valve-per-cylinder PowerPlus Indian racing motorcycle topped 120 mph in 1918.
An Indian Chief Motorcycle is a statement all its own. One that says you appreciate craftsmanship,
style and American-made quality. A statement that says you’d rather blend out, than in. Our full line of
2012 parts and accessories allows you to take your Indian Chief a step further, making it truly unlike
