ForewordThanksfordownloadingmyguitareBook,47LicksYouMustKnow!Inmy20yearsofteaching guitarIhavehadtheprivilegeofstudyingthesolosofmanygreatguitaristsandworkingwith manygreatstudents.Mygoalinwritingthisbookistointroducemyguitarstudentstophrases, licksandideasthatIfindcommontomanyleadguitaristsandsolos.Theselicksarepresented roughlyinorderofdifficulty.Eachhasashortdescriptiontohelpexplainwhyitisincludeditin thiscollection. First,letmesaythatlicks,prerehearsedsolophrases,arejustonecomponentofimprovising. Trueimprovisationisplayingsomethingwehaveneverplayedbeforeonourinstrument.This maybethegreatestachievementinaguitarsolo.However,manyguitarsoloswehearare composedor,atbest,aspontaneousreorganizationofpreviouslylearnedphrasesandmaterial.If notessential,itisatleastpracticaltoknowsomeprerehearsedlicksforthosetimeswhenwe arenotcatchinglightninginabottle.
