NGK’s polymer insulators are the result of more than 40 years of research and development. Our ISO 9001 certificationhas been achieved due to our vast engineering expertise, stringent quality control processes, advanced manufacturingcapabilities, and our selection of the best materials and optimum designs. All of these are essential in order to meet NGK’straditional policy of commitment to producing insulators of the highest quality.

MaterialsEnd-fittingsForged steel or ductile cast iron (hot dip galvanized).

HousingSilicone rubber with excellent hydrophobicity and anti-tracking performance. The material passes not onlyIEC/ANSI tracking erosion test but also other standard aging tests such as CSA / tracking wheel test.

CoreHigh quality pultruded epoxy FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics) rod.

InterfacesHousing to CoreExcellent chemical bonding stronger than rubber’s inherentstrength. No sheath-to-shed interface and no joint inhousing up to 800 kV class application because of directone-piece molding.

Housing to End-FittingWater-tight sealing ensured by double O-rings built into housing structure and silicone sealant with positive contactby crimping the end-fitting.

End fitting to CoreSuperior gripping of core due to pressure controlled multiple step circumferential compression which enablesexcellent mechanical performance because of less stressconcentration.

Research and DevelopmentHigh performance and quality of our polymer insulators have been proven by extensive research. At both NGK’s High VoltageLaboratory and our other testing facilities, we have conducted the standard tests specified in international standards, such asIEC.Various tests, from chemical analysis of the materials to full-scale electrical and mechanical tests on polymer insulators, alsohave been performed.These results indicate the continuous improvement of our polymer insulator technology.

Maximum Design Cantilever Load (MDCL)The strength rating of line post insulators is usually designated as cantilever strength because of the structural application intransmission lines. Packaging

All of NLPI’s insulators are packed in weatherproof containers in order to protect the products dur-ing land, air, and sea transportation. Several different grades of packaging can be offered depend-ing on the mode of transport and the expected storage conditions. The packaging options that weoffer are shown below. Since the user best knows their crate requirements, they should select theoption that is most suited to their needs and include that information in the purchasing specifica-tion. Special packaging arrangements can be accommodated upon request.

Each container is marked with the number of insulators it contains, the catalog number, descriptionof the containers, the manufacturer’s name, and any other customer requests. Also, a “PolymerInsulator Handling Instruction” sheet is included with all containers. This sheet states any neces-sary cautions during handling, transportation, and installation. If corona rings are to be included, acorona ring installation sheet is also provided.
