THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 24, 2021

THE VISITATION COLLABORATIVE

From the Pastor Excerpt from Statement of Most Reverend José H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles, President, United States Confer-ence of Catholic Bishops. My prayers are with our new President and his family today. I am praying that God grant him wisdom and courage to lead this great nation and that God help him to meet the tests of these times, to heal the wounds caused by this pandemic, to ease our intense political and cultural divisions, and to bring people together with renewed dedication to America’s founding purposes, to be one nation under God com-mitted to liberty and equality for all. Catholic bishops are not partisan players in our na-tion’s politics. We are pastors responsible for the souls of millions of Americans and we are advocates for the needs of all our neighbors. ..When we speak on issues in American public life, we try to guide consciences, and we offer principles. These princi-ples are rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the social teachings of his Church. Jesus Christ revealed God’s plan of love for creation and revealed the truth about the human person, who is created in God’s im-age, endowed with God-given dignity, rights and re-sponsibilities, and called to a transcendent destiny. For many years now, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has tried to help Catholics and oth-ers of good will in their reflections on political issues. Among them: abortion, euthanasia, the death penalty, immigration, racism, poverty, care for the environ-ment, criminal justice reform, economic develop-ment, and international peace. On these and other issues, our duty to love and our moral principles lead us to prudential judgments and positions that do not align neatly with the political categories of left or right or the platforms of our two major political parties. We work with every President and every Congress. On some issues we find our-selves more on the side of Democrats, while on oth-ers we find ourselves standing with Republicans. Our priorities are never partisan. We are Catholics first, seeking only to follow Jesus Christ faithfully and to advance his vision for human fraternity and commu-nity. I look forward to working with President Biden and his administration, and the new Congress. As with every administration, there will be areas where we

agree and work closely together and areas where we will have principled disagreement and strong opposi-tion. Working with President Biden will be unique, how-ever, as he is our first president in 60 years to profess the Catholic faith. In a time of growing and aggres-sive secularism in American culture, when religious believers face many challenges, it will be refreshing to engage with a President who clearly understands, in a deep and personal way, the importance of reli-gious faith and institutions. At the same time, as pastors, the nation’s bishops are given the duty of proclaiming the Gospel in all its truth and power, in season and out of season, even when that teaching is inconvenient or when the Gos-pel’s truths run contrary to the directions of the wider society and culture. So, I must point out that our new President has pledged to pursue certain policies that would advance moral evils and threaten human life and dignity, most seriously in the areas of abortion, contraception, marriage, and gender. Of deep concern is the liberty of the Church and the freedom of believ-ers to live according to their consciences.………………………………………………………..

President Biden’s call for national healing and unity is welcome on all levels. It is urgently needed as we confront the trauma in our country caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the social isolation that has only worsened the intense and long-simmering divisions among our fellow citizens. We are all under the watchful eye of God, who alone knows and can judge the intentions of our hearts. I pray that God will give our new President, and all of us, the grace to seek the common good with all sincerity. I entrust all our hopes and anxieties in this new mo-ment to the tender heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Christ and the patroness of this excep-tional nation. May she guide us in the ways of peace and obtain for us wisdom and the grace of a true pat-riotism and love of country. Interested in becoming Catholic? Are you or do you know someone who is thinking about entering the Catholic Church? We are preparing to start our RCIA classes this fall. RCIA is the for-mation program by which we assist those who are in-terested in becoming Catholic to learn about the Catho-lic faith and to help them say ‘yes’ to God’s invitation to enter into His Church. Last year we had two adults enter into the Church from our collaborative. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact Fr. Bennett at [email protected].

THE VISITATION COLLABORATIVE

Ongoing… The Youth Group wants your returnable cans and bottle to raise funds for our activities. You may leave your items in front of the lower garage below the Collab-orative Office building. (Enter from CraneRoad) Thank You!

3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Our parish retreats are a time of change. Even years later, people will often remember it as a time of new discoveries and seeing faith in action for the first time. When the weekend is over, life is never quite the same again. The experience of a renewed faith brings a new light and a new hope to our life. Jesus brings a new message of love to the whole world, a message of God’s providence, peace and forgiveness. That message is renewed each day when we pray, when we serve, when we acknowledge the importance of faith and act on our desire to love. Some will hear it, others will ignore it, and some will doubt it. But the message persists, offering hope and grace to everyone. God’s calls us in His own time, perhaps at a mo-ment we are least expecting it. He never takes it back. We are always able to respond, to begin again, and to renew our willingness to accept and share the message of love and life, of goodness and grace. Accept the call. Life will never be the same.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You

are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated

from You. Amen.

St. Mary of the Hills School - Educating Mind, Body and Spirit

“We couldn't be more happy with our choice to send our son to Saint Mary of the Hills. He started in sixth grade, and has absolutely thrived in Middle School. He was fully welcomed by students and teachers alike. Com-

munity building as a Christian value is a basic way of life at St. Mary's….. His spirituality has flourished, and he has a personal relationship with his priest, and a deep respect for the Faith he is learning so much about. He speaks about his per-sonal relationship with God in a way that I know will give him strength throughout his life. I love this school, and I am so grateful for all it has done for my son!”

The Visitation Collaborative and St. Agatha Parish are collaborating to give our youth the opportunity to pack lunches for Fr. Bill's in Quincy on a monthly basis. There are two great opportunities for you or your family to support this new ministry! 1. Volunteer with us! Let Will Rein know you are interested, and we can give you the next steps on how to get involved! 2. Sponsor our monthly meals! Our collaborative cost for the meals is $100/month. With your help, we can continue to provide meals to those in need while edu-cating and engaging our youth in making the meals. Thank you for your consideration! Sign-up below to donate.

Thank you to those who have generously donated meals with Fr. Bills! We packed our 125 meals for

Fr. Bill's in December, and look to other meal pack-aging events in 2021! Please consider giving to feed

Visitation Prayer

O Virgin of the Visitation, compelled by the Holy Spirit, and with Jesus hidden beneath your Heart, you arose in those days and, with haste, went to your kins-

woman Elizabeth, to serve her in her time of need. Elizabeth acknowledged your faith, and a new song

came to flower on Your lips; thus did you magnify the Father whose mercy is from generation to generation.

Visit us now, O Mother of Our Lord, and obtain for us

a quickening of prophetic grace, that we may serve our brothers and sisters in faithfully loving the

Church, and love the Church in humbly serving each other, and so, under your gracious protection, again

and again repeat your words: “Behold, I am the hand-maid of the Lord; be it done unto me according to

your word.” O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
