November Virtue of the Month –Peace

Peace is a goal of all spiritual people. Peace begins within ourselves and is an inner state of well-being and calm. People of peace promote non-violence, practice conflict resolution, and believe in cooperating to solve problems.

This November we celebrate the virtue of Peace.

Make peace with yourself

Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations

To support our faith development and Catholic Board Learning Cycle, we infuse our Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations in all aspects of Catholic Education from Kindergarten to Grade 12. As a school we work to support a deeper understanding of these expectations and of our witness to faith. To-gether, as a community we work to embed the seven expectations to support the Catholic Education of our students as they journey through our schools through to vocation.

Please come and join us at our next meeting on November 9th at 6:30 in the staff room. We look forward to seeing you then!

Cross Country

The students of St. Maurice participated in several cross country events this

past month. Through their hard work and dedication the school was represented at the divisional, regional and city finals. The students worked

hard as a team showing discipline and perseverance. Congratulations on

your tremendous efforts! Go WildCats!! We would also like to take this

opportunity to thank all the staff who were involved in coaching the students for giving of their time to further student achievement.

Student Mental Health and Well-Being

Minute Mindfulness:

Try these quick “Minute Mindfulness” practic-es to help you SLOW down…

STOP. Stand up and breathe. Feel your connection to the earth. Tune in to your body. Lower your gaze. Scan your body and notice physical sensations or emo-tions. Discharge any unpleasant sensations, emo-tions or feelings on the out breath. Notice any pleas-ant ones and let them fill you up on the in breath. Observe. Lift your eyes and take in your sur -roundings. Observe something in your environment that is pleasant and be grateful for it and its beauty. Possibility. Ask yourself what is possible or what is new or what is a forward step.

If you find yourself being reactive, try the following steps: Pause and take one to three big breaths.

Say “step back.” ( You don’t have to physically step back, you can just do it in your mind.) Say “clear head.” Say “calm body.” Breathe again. Say “relax,” “melt” or “ease.”

An aspiration. Decide on an aspiration ( or perhaps you can focus on our Catholic Virtue of the Month). Just ask your-self this question: What is my heart’s aspiration? Pause for about 20 seconds. Do this a second or third time and write down what comes. Perhaps it is to come from love, or to be kind to yourself or oth-ers or to be patient. Once you decide which aspiration you like best, say that at the beginning of the day. This will set you up for your day and your interactions with others (and even with yourself).
