General Manager’s Message
Dear Members: From 1981-1985, I had the privilege of working under the direction of John Derr at the Carolinas PGA Section office in North Myrtle Beach. Mr. Derr was a noted broadcaster with CBS and ac-complished writer and journalist. He was born in nearby Dallas, NC, and cut his teeth as a report-er in Gastonia for the daily paper there. Mr. Derr broadcast from the tower behind # 15 green at Augusta for many years and later did rec-orded radio updates each 15 minutes from Augusta National called "Masters Progress Re-ports." This was prior to the internet and proved to be a valuable service to countless outlets across the globe. He had me on his "staff" at the Masters starting in 1982. It was fabulous! Back then, we would have access to the clubhouse, media center and complimentary food & beverage all week. I was in heaven! My job was simply to enjoy the championship, and as I observed anything interesting or of note out on the course, report it to Mr. Derr so he could incorporate it in his reports. It was a great as-signment. I got to meet many influential folks through Mr. Derr and became a member of the Golf Writers Association of America. I am now a proud Life Member of that organization. Over the years since, I have attended virtually every Masters. And, as a side note, the current Masters Chairman, Fred Ridley, and I were college teammates at the University of Florida. The point of this nostalgia is it's April, it's Masters time, it's time for me to go to the annual Golf Writers Association of America Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet where the superstars of golf are recognized. It's time for me to drive down to Augusta and admire the dogwoods and azaleas blooming along the highway. It's my annual chance to catch up with old friends. But not this year. Our world has been turned upside down!! I am most thankful that our golf course remains open, and we can still provide take-out service and delivery for our members. No one knows what the coming weeks and months will bring and what long-term effects this virus will have on our nation. Our lives have been permanently altered. But in the interim, we will con-tinue to work hard at the club to provide the best services we can under the conditions and pray this scourge ends as soon as possible. Be safe, stay well, and see you at Cedar Rock when cir-cumstances allow. Jim Hart General Manager

Aerification and verticutting have been completed. The greens have been fertilized and will begin to heal. The fairways and rough have also been fertilized. We will
open 3 fairway to cart traffic April 1st. We ask that you please repair you ball marks and smooth your tracks in the bunkers.

Golf Professional News
Golf Shop News
During these unprecedented times it’s hard to find good news…well, the good news from us is that the golf course gets to stay open! With the Stay-at-Home order in effect for the next 30 days, or longer, golf is considered an essential be-cause of the benefits of the outdoor exercise. With this in mind, we have several social distancing practices in place and we would appreciate your compliance.
• Please implement social distancing and remain at least six away from other people.
• The golf shop will be open, but be mindful of others and check-in one at a time.
• If availability allows, please ride one person per cart.
• Credit card usage is the recommended form of payment to limit touches during transac-tions.
In an effort to avoid the spreading of the illness we have done the following:
• Increased or cleaning and sanitizing procedures of all hard surfaces, including counters, door handles, and golf carts.
• Removed sand bottles from the carts, rakes from the bunkers, bag stands from the range, and flags from the prac-tice green.
• Added a foam tube to the bottom of the cups to limit touching of the flagstick and cups on the green. In these trying times, we are all having to make concessions in order to get through this. In a way, this could be a “re-set” of sorts that we all need to reevaluate what is important to us…family, friends, self care…and most importantly our health. With this in mind, I encourage all of us to take some time and get outside. Grab the clubs and go “old school”. Walk even a few holes if you can’t make all 18. Not only is this the “safest” way to play golf these days, but it might be the best way to handle the stress as spring brings the world to life.
COVID-19 Fundraiser
On Saturday, April 4th we will be having a “4 for $20” fundraiser for the UNC
Health COCID-19 Response Fund to support patients and their families,
health care teams, and research. For every foursome, we are donating $20.
Please spread the word so we can support those in need in our community.
Tournament Update
With the uncertainty of the impact of COVID-19, all tournaments are currently postponed until further notice. We are
looking to reschedule some of these events in the summer or fall and get creative on how we can still enjoy some com-petition during this time. As things develop, we will continue to communicate any changes.
Titleist Promotion and Grip Specials
This is a great time to stock up and prepare for the season
Titleist is offering 4 dozen personalized PROV1, PROV1X, or AVX balls for the price of 3!
This promotion ends April 19th. Please call the shop, and we can place your order. While some of us are dusting off the cobwebs from our games…you might notice your grips are feeling a little less “grippy” than they used to be. This is a great time to re-grip. We are
currently offering a grip special. Get 11 or more grips, then receive your choice of 2 extra grips free or a new putter grip. With so many styles to choose from, we special order every
Monday. Stop by the shop, and take a look at what is available.
