2020 4-H Static Exhibit Virtual Entries — Procedures and Specifications

See the 2020 Lancaster County Super Fair 4-H/FFA Fair Book for information about entering static exhibits and complete list of fair classes. Note change from Fair Book — this year’s 4-H/FFA static exhibits will be entered and judged virtually. Interview judging is canceled. This handout has the procedures and details for virtual entries.

Lancaster County Fair 150th Anniversary Theme 4-H Static Exhibits will be accepted, however, the special display, commemorative 150th ribbons and top award are postponed until 2021.

Virtual Entries Must Entered Online Between July 21 and July 28, 8 p.m.

This year, instead of in-person static exhibits, families must take photos and/or videos of each exhibit and submit entries online at https://lancaster.fairmanager.com. 4-H families and youth may submit entries. Static exhibit entries may be submitted online starting on Tuesday, July 21. Deadline is Tuesday, July 28, 8 p.m. No late entries will be accepted.

It is suggested to have all photos, videos and PDFs ready before starting the entry process for each entry, but not necessary. The process starts in ShoWorks, where you can enter entries one after another. Once you “Check Out,” you cannot edit or delete entries, but you can add more entries later. After “Check Out,” ShoWorks automatically switches to Fair Vault for uploading files (both of these web-based software are integrated with 4HOnline). You can upload more files later. A handout (PDF) with step-by-step instructions how to submit entries — including screenshots — will be posted at https://lancaster.unl.edu/4h/fair/staticexhibits.

Nebraska 4-H static exhibitors are not charged entry fees. See 4-H/FFA Fair Book (online at https://lancaster.unl.

edu/4h/fair) for detailed class requirements, including if supporting information is needed. See the following pages of this handout for a list of virtual requirements for each division (i.e., how many photos are needed, if video is needed, etc.).

Rules & guidelines for photos and videos:• Youth should not be pictured with their exhibits. • Generally speaking, images taken by modern digital cameras,

smartphones and tablets will be sufficient resolution for sub-mission without resizing or cropping.

• Images should have a minimum resolution of 72 ppi (pixels per inch), but higher is preferred. Images should also be a minimum of 700 pixels on the shortest side (height or width), but larger is preferred.

• Images may be taken vertically or horizontally (portrait or landscape view).

• Choose an area with good, natural light. Do not use flash. Many indoor lights have a yellow color cast — consider photograph-ing outdoors on an overcast day (avoid direct sunlight).

• Set exhibit in front of, or on top of, a neutral background with-out clutter.

• Consider taking several photos from different angles and perspectives, then select the best one(s). Be sure to take photos from an adequate distance so the entire exhibit is visible.

• Avoid using the zoom feature on the camera whenever possible. Get physically closer instead.

• Unless absolutely necessary, it is recommended to avoid cropping or resizing images prior to submission.

• Do not apply filters, text, or any other digital manipulation that inaccurately represents the exhibit.

Photo specifications:• File formats accepted include: .jpg, .jpeg, .png or .bmp.• Photo file size limit is 8MB.Video specifications (if required):• File formats which will be accepted include: .mpg, .mp4, .mov,

.avi, etc.• Video file size limit is 120MB. Video time length about 1–2

minutes. If your video file is too large to upload, you can try reducing the resolution with HandBrake free software at https://handbrake.fr, or reshoot the video with lower resolution.

• Decrease or eliminate background sounds.• Slowly capture every detail of your project up close so the judge

can see them clearly.

PDF specifications (if required):• INCLUDE EXHIBITOR NAME!• PDF file size limit is 6MB.• PDFs can be as many pages as necessary.• You can create a PDF from any software using Windows 10’s

Public Online SlideshowSubmitted photos will be used to create a public Static

Exhibit Online Slideshow. 4-H families will be notified when the public link is posted at http://lancaster.unl.edu/4h/fair.

Ribbons, scoresheets, certificates and awards will be available for pick-up after fair.

4-H’ers with exhibits selected for State Fair will be notified.
