LEARNING TOGETHER
Welcome back to a new term and a new year at Kiltearn. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and had time to relax. It is lovely to see all the children back and eager to start learning again.
Staffing We would like to extend a warm welcome to Ms Avril Lumsden who will be covering Mrs Ryan’s maternity post. She will be teaching P5/6 every Thursday and Friday.
We also need to say a very sad goodbye to Mrs Armstrong who is moving onto pastures new and will be taking up a new post in Craighill Primary. We’d like to say a huge thank you for all your input over the years and we’ll miss you here at Kiltearn. Good Luck from everyone.
Child Absence
If your child is off school due to illness or appointments please inform the school before 9.15am. Contact us either by email: [email protected] or by phone: 830568
Drop off/Pick ups
As with any school 9am and 3pm are the busiest times for our small road at the front of the school. We are working together with Safer Routes to School to try and alleviate the traffic at pick up times.
Dates for your Diary
Please ensure you take a note of the important dates for this term from the last page of this newsletter. Parents’ Evening will be
held on Thursday 17th March 3.30 – 8pm. The last day of term is Thursday 24th March and school reopens after the Easter holidays on Monday 11th April.
School Dinners
We have dinner money envelopes in the office. Please let us know if you need any more and we can give them to your child.
Nursery
Busy Start will begin again in February. Please see dates below and sign up outside the nursery.
Drumming Tuition
This will now take place on a Friday afternoon commencing Friday 15th January.
Welcome back! Miss M Thomson

Volunteers Needed
SHOULD CHILDREN AT KILTEARN PRIMARY BE GIVEN HOMEWORK?
We are always looking for new faces to join the Parent Forum. Please come along to our next meeting if you can spare some
time.
The next Burns’ Night Fundraiser Meeting will be held in school on Monday 11th January at 7.15pm
Our next official meeting will take place on Wednesday 10th February at 7.15pm.
Hopefully see you there!
Last term we were discussing the topic of homework. The children completed a survey in their house groups and gave us some well thought out comments on what they like and dislike. I’d like to say a huge thank you to the parents who took time to fill in our online survey. In the end we had 64 responses. After discussion with staff we decided to trial the education website EducationCity. This is one option we have to provide Maths homework for children, either alongside written work or without. I would appreciate if you could take a few minutes to fill in this short survey on your experience on using or not using EducationCity.

It’s not too late to have a go at using the free trial which runs until Friday 15th January. Remember to use your child’s unique login name and password (these should be written in the back of homework diaries).
Homework
There are many ways you can help to support the school. We are looking for volunteers to come in to school on a Friday afternoon, during Golden Time to share or teach an activity to the children. This might be anything from knitting, crafts, chess or gardening. If there is anything you’d like to share with a small group of children then please contact the school. It may even be a relative or someone else you know within the community who would like to come in.

Young Leaders
It is a New Year and a new start and we will try hard to get house points and do lots more sports events and raise more money for Sport Relief.
In Novar, we would like to take different house groups out to play different fun games they haven’t played before.
We are glad to welcome everybody into 2016. We are looking forward to such events as young leaders and cross country. We also hope to keep our Green flag so don’t drop rubbish Fyrish!
“We would like to welcome you all to 2016. This year we want to do a lot more charity work. On the 18th March, some of the older pupils will be working together to help raise money for Sports Relief.”
Well done to Alisha who has taken the lead in training the whole Eco Committee on composting waste from the staffroom. There is now a timetable to ensure that all members of the Eco Committee take turns to empty the staffroom compost bin and help Kiltearn to
become even more Eco-Friendly.
Excellent Work!
