Boys & Girls Club of Eden Holds 3rd Annual Fashion Show The Boys & Girls Club of Eden held its 3rd annual Fash-ion Show on Saturday, April 18th at Brierwood Country Club. The event consisted of a brunch, shopping at 15 ven-dor booths, a number of basket and special raffles, and the fashion show itself, which was sponsored by West Herr Au-tomotive Group. Fashions were provided by a number of lo-cal clothing retailers. Emceed by Katie Morse of Channel 7 News, the show presented 30 outfits for ladies at all stages of life including pre-school, high school (including prom), career, vacation, honeymoon, maternity, and retirement. The show also featured a bridal party, consisting of ring bearer, groomsman, father of the bride, and groom tuxedos; a flower girl dress; a bridesmaid dress; a mother of the bride ensemble; and three bridal gowns in modern, mid-century, and early 20th century styles. The early 20th century dress, on loan from Eden resident Carol Collins, is a true antique, as it was first worn in 1908 at the wedding of Collins’ grand-parents. The event was a great success with approximately 200 guests in attendance. The Club would like to thank the par-ticipating vendors, stores, and donors for their support, the models for their volunteerism and good humor, and every-one who attended for their energy and enthusiasm. The Club looks forward to an even bigger and better Fashion Show next year! Flag Raising at Eden Library Members of Newell-Faulkner Post 880 American Legion, Eden, and Boy Scout Troop 603 conducted a flag raising ceremony at the Eden Library on Saturday, April 18th. Af-ter the harsh winter weather this year, the library was in need of a new flag and the Legion donated one. Members of Troop 603 were instructed in flag etiquette and helped to raise the flag. The Eden Library Board of Trustees and staff are grateful to both groups for their help with this project.In attendance were Robert Robertson, Larry Griner and Commander Jim Blidy from Post 880. Eagle Scout Michael Senus and Troop 603 scouts George Senus, Connor Glea-son, and Hagen Hauser participated in the flag raising. April is National Car Care Month: Spring into ActionApril is National Car Care Month and the Car Care Council reminds motorists to spring into action and follow 10 basic maintenance procedures to make sure their vehicles are running at peak performance for the summer driving season.

1. Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.2. Check the hoses and belts to make sure they are not cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or showing signs of excessive wear.3. Check the battery and replace if necessary. Make sure the connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free.4. Check the brake system annually and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected at each oil change.5. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, damage and broken supports or hangers if there is an unusual noise. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous & must be corrected without delay.6. Schedule a tune-up to help the engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy and produce the lowest level of emissions.7. Check the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system, as proper heating and cooling performance is critical for interior comfort and for safety reasons such as defrosting.8. Inspect the steering and suspension system annually including shock absorbers, struts and chassis parts such as ball joints, tie rod ends and other related components.9. Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots.10. Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving during precipitation.“Whether you visit a professional service technician or do it yourself, a thorough vehicle in-spection this spring can help keep your car safe and dependable and help you avoid much higher costs down the road.

Eden Local on Jeopardy An Eden local competed on the game show “Jeopardy” on April 9th. Lindsey Ohmit Love, graduated in 2004 from Eden Senior High School, and currently lives in Washing-ton D.C. She graduated from Canisius College in 2008 with a background in European Studies, International Re-lations and French. Lindsey finished in second place, after guessing the Final Jeopardy question right, and received $18,701. Congratulations Lindsey!

Floor Hockey Comes to a Close The Co-Ed Floor Hockey league held in the Elementary school gymnasium has come to a close. This league is host-ed by the Eden Boys & Girls Club as a way to keep local kids (both members of the Club and non-members) active in the winter months. In a close championship game, the “Knights” beat the “Monsters” 4 to 3. Colton, a member of the “Knights”, was integral to the win. He was able to score three of his teams four points! Both teams played well, and the season was an overall success.
